Newbie to site but unfortunately..not to CH

I feel so blessed to have stumbled onto this site!!  Been dancin with the DEVIL for 20 years and have tried everything....I thought.  About 10 years ago I read something about O2 therapy and ask the Drs. at the VA where I was being treated at the time if I could try it.  Well, they gave me a bottle and a cannula at 2LPM.  Not really much help and so I just stuck it in the closet and forgot about it.  After almost a year and a half in remission my latest cycle started about 5 weeks ago now and in searching for any recent info on CH I came across this site a couple days ago and read about "the real deal" on O2 therapy!!  Took off yesterday from work and jumped thru the hoops to get some O2 and facemask and guess what.  Had my normal 5 to 7 attacks last nite...but....hit the O2 and none of em made it past a 2....WOW!!!!  Used up almost the whole tank but you can bet your bippee I'll be makin it to the O2 store on my lunchbreak for a refill.  Thanks ya'll!!! laugh

Welcome to the website.  Sucks that you had a reason to come looking for us, but damn glad you found us.

As you have no doubt discovered, the links to the left have tons of good info in them.  There is even more on the OUCH website.   Read everything you can and print stuff out that seems applicable.  Unfortunately, you may end up teaching whatever doctor about CH.

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventative, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH.

http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf

Here is a link to some non-prescription alternatives different people have used to help with the pain:

http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm

If you are currently taking medications, I would suggest you talk with your doctor before taking any of the nutritional supplements.  At the very least check for interactions at a website such as:

http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/Home/AllAboutDrugs

Nutritional supplements can interact with prescription meds just the same as some prescription meds interact with each other.  Better safe than sorry where your health is concerned.

I'm glad you have discovered the "real deal" on using oxygen.  It kills off a good 75% of my hits.  As well as it works, I have a hard time understanding why more doctors do not prescribe it.  Here are some links that tells about using O2:

http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm

http://www.headaches.org/consumer/topicsheets/oxygen.html

http://www.chhelp.org/mhni.html

Here is a link to a letter that may help explain things to your friends, family and co-workers.

http://www.clusterheadaches.org.uk/home/index.cfm?address=../clusters/no te_colleagues.cfm&added=04/01/04&code=CB

Again, welcome to CH.com.  There's no better place in the world for info and support of cluster headaches.

Try to obtain at least 4 to 5 e-tanks and a couple of M's.  The M's will last you a few/several days.  The E probably one night.  Glad you're getting relief.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.
