Are you using a non rebreather mask? If not you need to get one. Try a faster O2 flow. I usually have it between 12 and 15 LPM and that works fantastically.

I can usually abort a headache between 10-15 minutes. But I usually give it an extra five minutes or so after the pain is gone just for a little insurance.  Sometimes, the O2 just doesn't work, and if it goes longer than 20 minutes, I have learned that it won't be working for me.  This does not happen often though.  You should try to get at least 8LPM.  And many people use up to 15 LPM.  Each person and each headache is different, depending on lung capacity, etc.  And be sure to use a non-rebreather mask.  The O2 info link on the left is full of useful information.  Best of luck.

45 mins means the HA went away on its own.....get the right mask and get on the 02 as soon as he feels it coming.

Waking up with a CH will not be helped by 02...only thing it will do then is hold it at bay while abortives take hold.

6 liters?.......LMAO....that aint shit.....15 is where its at.

For me, O2 via a non-rebreather mask at 8 lpm will abort the attack in 5-20 minutes depending how soon I got the mask on and how bad the attack is.  During that 5-20 minutes it holds the attacks down around a KIp 5 or less.

I've never been able to get the masks anywhere BUT the 02 supply.   They're inexpensive 3 to 5 dollars each.

And you REALLY need to get him a regulator with a flow rate higher than 6...like Jonny said, "that ain't shit"   Mine goes to 15 and that's where it is always at when I'm getting hit.

Yes.  At the 02 supply.

Since you already have tanks and a reg.  that means you have a prescription on file with them from your Dr.  so it should not be hard for you to ask them to replace it with a higher liter flow rate regulator.

I just now looked at mine and it says:

Inlet pressure range    2200 to 500 psi
Outlet flow range    0-15  lpm (liters per min.)

BufNMark,

You need 3 things:

An oxygen tank.... not an oxygen generator.

A properly configured non-rebreather face mask with a reservoir bag... not the nose thingys.

A high flow regulator... not one of the normal flow regulators.

Don't settle for anything less.

You MAY need your doc to call them with an updated script with a higher flow rate if the script doesn't specifically have the higher flow rate on it. This will get you the adjustable regular you need. Just call the oxygen company and they should let you know if you need to do that.

Be well,
