Hi y'all, I've just got some melatonin 3mg. How much should I take to start with. I take other meds for my MS - beta inteferon, dothiepim, baclofen and detrusitol. I don't want to take too much as I don't know what the side effects will be like. I have a fridge load of trex shots for hits. I don't want to OD! Any ideas will be very welcome. Thanks Marta

check with doctor or pharmacist regarding drug interactions........I think the known side-effects are linked to depression...... as far as dosage goes, most of us seem to to take upwards of 12mg when peaking.....9-12 mg is what helped me.

Assuming you have checked with your doctor... It takes a few days to start working. Start low and slowly work your way up until you find what works or that it won't work. Try one pill for 4 or 5 nights, if no response, try 2 pills for 4 or 5 nights, etc, etc. I think the most I've heard anyone taking on this board was 15mg, but I could be wrong. Good Luck!!! .

MS and rheumatoid arthritis are two conditions where melatonin may not be a good med to take ... it is preliminary and controversial, but there are some concerns that it may aggravate these diseases. The thinking is that people with arthritis or MS often have worse symptoms in the morning because the disease is aggravated by melatonin. Quote:Through its pro-inflammatory action, MEL may play an adverse role in autoimmune diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis patients have increased nocturnal plasma levels of MEL and their synovial macrophages respond to MEL with an increased production of IL-12 and nitric oxide (NO). In these patients, inhibition of MEL synthesis or use of MEL antagonists might have a therapeutic effect. In other diseases such as multiple sclerosis the role of MEL is controversial. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed &dopt=Abstract&list_uids=11227046 |

I like to take 6-12 mgs. Half regular melatonin and half time-release melatonin.
