Sleep (yeah right) study

Well, I completed the "stay awake all night in a strange room hooked up to a bunch of wires with a camera aimed at you" study. Will make an interesting story for my grandchildren. Since I wasn't allowed a timepiece I have no idea how long I may have drifted...do remember a dream shortly before the tech came in but don't think it was for long. Mostly I was aware of fighting the urge to do all the things one does in the privacy of ones own bed (will spare you the details) knowing I had an audience. Since they didn't come in and put me on CPAP during the night I assume sleep apnea is not the issue. Will be intersting to see what the report tells my neuro...other than "she kept singing something about Alice's restaurant all night"

That song has been in my head for 2 days now! Thanks, Frank! Those studies are awful enough when you can sleep. I can't imagine how awful that was for you, kimmiee. When I had one, the cpap wasn't used until I went back for the second study. In my case, the techs turned over all to results to the dr the next day, and then I was called to make the second appoinment. Hope the Lunestra keeps working for you at home.

Nani, The yechs told me they would assess my breathing during the night and put a mask on me if needed, thus I assume it was not needed since they didn't. I don't see my neuro for a month and he didn't say anything about a follow-up study. Eegads. Please, no. Kim

Well done Kim, I think if I had one of those sleep things I would come over all claustraphobic (sp?). Did you have a hit while you were on your sleepover , CH or anything like that? Keep us posted PF 'Alice.....' Marta

LOL kim! I felt the same when I had mine done. I believe there will be a report that will go to the doc that ordered the test and you should be able to get a copy of that even if there is not follow up at the sleep center. PF's -lionsound

Make sure you get a full report from the study, and bring it with you to the doctor, the full report will be long and give the doc a better idea of what's going on than just the synopsis that the lab may send him, including all the details on oxygen saturation by the minute instead of just averages. I only slept probably 3 or 4 hours when I had mine done, and they didn't come in and put the cpap on me because the sleep tech didn't think I was having enough apneas to warant the machine. To my surprise when I went to the doc 2 weeks later he decided to put me on the auto machine because of the clusters, so goes to show what the sleep techs know.

Thanks everyone for the follow-up info. All they tell you is "we'll send a report" Well, duh. Otherwise the point would be???? I went well armed with melatonin and lunesta and still didn't sleep but had only minor hits during the night. Wish I had known the time to see if anything on the report corresponded. I am glad to know to ask for a full report....I always forget that we patients have rights. All in all not a wholly bad experience....beats a root canal

| Very good point Kim, and beleive me, if you don't ask for it, you won't get it. Like I said, make sure the doctor has a copy of the full report, it may make a difference in his choice of treatment. Best of luck.
