Sleep Study

As I posted on here previously I am scheduled for a sleep study this Thursday night.  I called to talk to the tech about how to handle my meds and such and other questions like what am I supposed to do when I can't sleep from 10 pm when the study begins to 4am when I usually manage to (maybe) fall asleep or if I get a bad hit and his response was that i have to stay in bed.  I wonder if he has ever experienced a CH'er with a Kip 10 trying to "stay in bed"
Melatonin isn't working it's wonders lately and I've been getting nighttime hits again.  My Rx for Lunesta comes in tomorrow so maybe it will do the trick, but then again I'm worried about getting a hit and waking up disoriented in a strange place.
Beginning to wonder if this is worth the hassle.

If I wasn't doing this I'd probably be doing something else.

The way mine went:  The sleep specialist prescribed a sleeping pill, Ambien in my case, and told me to bring it with me to the study along with whatever other meds I normally take.  They made me fill out some paperwork and watch a video on sleep apnea.  They demonstrated a CPAP machine.  They hooked me up with about 4,000 electrodes (okay, more like 20 or 30) all over my face and scalp and body.  Of course after all the poking, prodding and sticking was over and I started to relax - BAM!  Kip 8 time.  They asked if I was okay and if I needed anything and then left me alone until it was over.  When that was done, they connected me to their test machine, put me to bed (or in my case in a recliner) and had me move, blink and breathe to test their electrode placements.  They they said goodnight.  When I wasn't asleep by whatever time - midnight, I think, they had me take the ambien.  Four or five hours or so later, I heard my sleep tech complaining to another tech outside my door that I never did go to sleep.

The sleep specialist, of course, wants a do-over.  I don't think so.  I warned him I don't sleep much if at all and also warned him that sleeping pills do not normally work on me.  What do I know?  It's just MY body that I have been living with and sometimes in spite of for 42 years.

Good luck.

Like Gator said, it is a pain in the you know where, and he described the setup pretty well.  Thank god I wasn't in cycle when I went, and got a good nights sleep, so they got some good data, but my doc said he would have liked to have seen an attack while wired up, just to see what happens.  Discuss your situation with the sleep tech when you get there, if you have a good one they will be very understanding and helpfull.  It may be a pain and be difficult, but beleive me it's worth it, since being on the cpap I haven't been getting the "normal" morning headaches, and have seen a great improvement in my daytime functioning, I'll guess I'll have to wait and see if it has any effects on the clusters.  Hang in there, go through with it and hopefully it will help.  If there is anything I can do to help, or you need more info PM me.  Best of luck.

Thanks for the help. I just began a Rx for lunesta and have slept like a baby the past two nights so I'm not so anxious.
