Hello all,

Yes, I am a new member.  I have had cluster headaches for years.  Today, I am a new man.  My doctor prescribed Relafen or Nabumetone its generic.  I feel that a weight of the world has been lifted off of me.  I can function and particpate in my regular daily duties like I used to be able to.  Relafen has been around for years.  It is an anti-inflamatory drug.  For those people that get well by taking prednisone then you should ask your doctor to give you a sample of Relafen.  It works and its a lot less money.

Happy man,

"Relafen: A Prescription NSAID
Relafen® (nabumetone) is one of the prescription NSAIDs commonly used to treat osteoarthritis. The drug provides pain relief by reducing the levels of inflammation in the joints. Relafen can cause the sudden development of stomach ulcers, so regular check-ups with your health professional are recommended. If you have kidney or liver problems, these should be discussed with your doctor before starting Relafen"

Glad it works for you, but Relafen is nothing like Prednisolone, and it's a shame NSAID's don't usually do anything at all for Ch sufferers. If they did there would be no need for this website

LMAO...If so, someone should've told him clusterheads spend tons of money on drugs already. Kinda like preaching to the choir...wonder if he sells kudzu?  Grin

Note to precon: I'm glad you found something that works for you. Treating CH is like a crapshoot, really. None of us is exactly the same.

Wow! One dose and he's a new man. Where do I sign up?  Who is his doctor? I'll move across country and worship at his feet.  Hey Precor 1, tell us more.  Please!  We are all waiting. I mean, what else do we have to do?  After all, you and your doctor may be our salvation after years of agony, trials and tribulation.
BTW...isn't this the same thing I give my arthritic cocker spanial?

Hey if it works for him that's wonderful.  Why are you all bashing?  Nabumatone didn't work for me.  But  CH responds to different meds differently in each person.

Sorry...I was bashing...and wrongfully so.  I almost ended up in the morgue because my PCP didn't do enough research so I get suspicious when someone professes an almost miraculous response to anything.  And I am a natural born cynic and a smart ass when the shadows are looming.
Heart felt apologies.

Here's a possible form letter for use in these situations:

Hey, that's great news for you!  We're glad you found something that is working for you.

As you can see by the vast number of threads abortives and preventatives, Clusters are often fickle, and many people see effective treatments from a variety of sources and, sadly, many people have still not been able to find an effective treatment. That's not to say that many haven't tried the gamut.

If I may ask you to please update your post over time to let people know your longer term experience with your treatment. You might let people know if you had longer term and consistent success, or if you experienced any side effects, or decreased effectiveness. Then the real value of your experience can be evaluated beyond your initial (and worthy) excitement.

Again, congratulations on finding some help, but please keep us posted over some time.

Thanks,

Wow did we ever come full circle!!  Hey guys I like the form letter too!   And I wrote the note in the first place.  I can assure you that I am not a drug rep.  Drug reps typically don't give out the generic names of the drugs they would be promoting.  I am a CH suffer that has struggled with pain for years.  And like you was looking for answers when if found your website.  I had been using Prednisone when my attacks became unbearable.  For me Prednisone worked well.  As you know,  it's not a good idea to stay on Prednisone for long periods of time.  It is also not a good idea to stay on anything for long periods of time but, sometimes you have to.  I originally learned about Relafen or Nabumetone after it had been prescribe for me because I had strained ligaments in my lower arm.  At that time I was also suffering from CH.  Simultanoeusly my headaches went away after using Relafen.   So I went back to my CH Doctor in Portland, OR..  We discussed  Relafen.  I told him that my headaches went away after using it.  So he prescribe it for me and I am in the process of using it.  It is best to take with food because of the stomach ulcers concern.  As posted by pubgirl.  But, really what drug doesn't have some side effect.  Prednsone side effects appear to be worse than Relafen.  If we all lived by that rule we would not be taking anything.  I just thought you might like to know.  Thats what this website is for isn't it?

Still headache free....

Precon1,  If you have found something that helps you with this beast then God Bless you.  I am here this morning with a Stadol/Zomig hangover.  Just one of those nights When the Beast was exceptionally vicious. So if I bite its the drugs not me. I would like to welcome you aboard and  I will admit yours is a little different. However,  it still has that ring of trying to sell me something.  You are not a used car salesman or somthing are you?

Precon,

Glad you found something to help. That's how I felt with I discovered topamax. It was almost immediate, but hasn't been that great for a whole lot of others. I still sing it's praises even tho after several years it quit working.

Over the years (and yes, I've been here since they moved the first load of dirt in) we've had things work for one that didn't for the next one. When we're hurting we just get bitchy. Grab a chair and welcome to Clusterville. You'll get used to everyone before long.

Hugs BD

I, for one, never thought you were a drug rep, man. Not once. Honest. I find it hard to believe Relafen did a damned thing for you......but what the heck..........there's people around here eating KUDZU and having a ball. Chew heartily as long as it works, but read ahead far enough so you have a plan "B" in case this fails.
