Push Button

A curious phenomena happened to me this morning. I was sitting down and was rubbing the side of my head when I hit a 'button', a soft spot about an inch above my ear on the left side; my cluster side and immediately it brought on an attack, not a killer, but a decent sized cluster headache. It wasn't a coincidence. I thought maybe I touched a vein or an artery, I'm not sure. I've had this happen before years ago, but this confirmed that it could happen. anybody else?

I might suggest you start wearing a helmet then.

Very interesting Paul....... I get that "cluster lump" behind my ear where the skull and neck join.......Usually rubbing that pea sized knot feels good but once in a while when it feels really achey and I rub it or push on it.....has tripped some major activity. bug out huh! Feel good man

I have a spot between my temple and my ear that I can push and trigger an attack. I have to be careful when I'm shadowing, because I automatically want to push against it.

that's why when someone asks "does a massage help?" I duck and run.... I had triggered one or two by pushing on something there, too.... Of course, there were also thunderstorms in the area.... wink

Are you sure your "push button" is some specific spot above the ear etc., or is it possible that you're just pushing a certain axis that turns your head the wrong way at the wrong time (when a CH is coming anyway)? I find that sleeping with my head turned 'wrong' increases the severity of CH pain at night when I am in a cycle. I also find that there is a relief "button" just below my right ear--below my skull and behing the mandible. (I am right site CH pain). Gentle pressure for several minutes can sometimes avoid an attack if I begin soon enough. (Strong attacks of 8 or 9 don't ever seem to be avoidable). I once had a great message therapist who did very deep and strong message on my neck and shoulders. This was helpful. He is retired now, unfortunately. bigAl

Hasn't happened to me. Seems like applying pressure to various areas of my afflicted side helps to relieve me of the pain. Again goes to show we're all different. Vig - stay away from that area, you might need that helmet!

I'm going to walk around and just repeat out loud to myself: Don't touch myself... Don't touch myself... Don't touch myself... that way I won't repeat the problem

| Doesn't sound like much fun at all I'm a left-sider too, and I have that exact same spot, only I have never triggered a HA yet. But that is the spot I often end up squashing an ice pack into during a hit.

Hey Vig. I get that problem on whichever side the beast decides to ramrod. My massage therapist worked on that area because she said it was all "wadded up" (therapist talk ). I was a k10 when she started. Got just enough relief to k6 to drive home and the eye was swollen back shut and I was back to k10 by the time I pulled in the driveway. That's the night I went to the full recommended dose of kudzu. It's like...it hurts good to rub it and then there's the potential....oh crap . Hope you're feeling better quick. Joe Edited to add. Since I can get hit on either side I must be ambibeastrous.

I don't have that. But then again, I don't touch my head that much. I just tear my hair when CH's is here...
