Grateful for support and information

Regarding my post "help - any hope left" I have read your responses to my post and I have to tell you that of the blessings in my life, this family, of those who are walking the walk and are sincere in helping others, is nothing short of amazing. Thank each and everyone of you that have taken the time to read my post and to respond to it. So much informaiton to sort through - and new insights to what we deal with. It always makes me smile when some one, with out migraines or clusters, says "boy I've got a headache" - man, they do NOT have a clue what a real headache is. I was so close to giving up - and caving in to the bastards that hit us, disability - taking pills, causing rebounds and not caring enough to really open my eyes to fight these f-----s head on again. I know about rebound headaches - but damn, ya reach the point when you just want that damn pain to stop. (BTW, I'm trying very hard to be polite and not swear and offend) I'm going to fight the good fight again - I'm not going to give in and let this pain turn me into a victim. Your support, words sent with sincere concern and love are helping me to give it another try and not let that bastard win. I know it will not be easy, but what is in life! I have fought for others for so many years - now it's time that I try again. I was at the point of "hell, I don't want to go through this shit again, finding specialist and going through cutting coffee (which I drink about two pots daily), I had quit smoking for six months before going to the diamond headache clinic and going through the histimane (cops are know to be poor spellers, aleast the older ones!) and guess where I ended up - IN THE SMOKING ROOM, man was my wife pissed. I can do this - I have to do this, I'm too young to give in. Your responses and a job offer out of the blue by an atty that knows my work, I'm going for it. Cut back on the drugs - maybe increase the verap, I don't know. I've been a fighter all my life and just plane got tired of it. I know you understand that. So much information you have given me to check out, even the shums (mushromes) sound like something to at least look at. Since retiring as a cop I've given MJ a try and found that it is amazing stuff - I usually take one hit and that's it for me - I'm leary of it intensifying the pain, but have found that you are able to go to another place and not have to concentrate on the pain. I had a CL earlier and it took aobut an hour to dull the pain and right now - after making the decision to go another round - couldn't get to sleep. Take care and I thoughts are coming your way for a break in your pain - even if it's short lived, it's a blessing. Ray

Its nice to meet you Ray and I'm glad you have found help from being here. I know what you mean. I can't begin to describe the relief I felt when I found this place too! There is so much to take in re different treatment options. From the mushies to the kudzu a few people are trying now. The meds listed on the left (including O2 which I love!) Margi has been posting some really interesting stuff about her husband's success with lithium pulsing as suggested by Chet too. There is a load of good info and while NOTHING works for everyone something will work for you (and me!).. we just have to read rea dand read a bit more and we will find it. Good luck with your search.. let us know how you are doing and keep that attitude! Its the best weapon you have! Take care Helen

Ray, that's the spirit! The battle against the beast has made me change my life in more positive direction as well. Funny, but before ch I fought with overweight (5kg), but now it's gone. I was negative as well...but now I've learned for good the importance of positive thinking. I'm a firm believer that it's all in the attitude. I read somewhere that sometimes we can't change our cirmustances, but we can chage out attitudes. I hope you keep yours, though! best wishes, Sandie

Ray, Sounds like things may be looking up. Thats great. Give the Kudzu a serious look. Its cheap, legal and from the ongoing reports very affective. If You haven't already read the thread it is in the Meds. and Treatments section.

Ray, First, and most important, welcome! Tons of differing ideas floating around here on how to deal with the beast. Be sure to read and determine what works but maybe more important, what does not work for you. I must apologize for hi-jacking your thread yesterday. Like I stated, I'm a tad ornery b/c of all the CH hits and shadow HA's. I am somewhat surprised to read that an ex-cop is hitting the bud and looking at shrooms. Another fine example of what the beast will drive us to do. A number of people on this board have had great success with these alternative Rx's, although I have not tried it. I consider myself lucky to be episodic and have not, at this juncture, been pushed to try alternative medications. Question: Are you a veteran? We have many vets on this board and was wondering if you have contacted the VA. I do know that some vets here have had difficulty with the VA regarding their CH's but I personally have not. Just thinking of other options for you. BTW--there are too many of us vets to name and I'm afraid I'd miss some---the most important one is DJ, our webmaster and host! Best of luck to you. TomM
