Since the Pledge of Allegiance
and
The Lord's Prayer
are not allowed in most
public schools anymore
Because the word "God" is mentioned....
A kid in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW
School
prayer.
I liked it....
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

Here's the original pledge of allegiance from 1892:
I pledge allegiance to my Flag,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.
And here's the 1923 pledge:

When did the fundies decide that little Johnny and Suzy should get a catechism as part of their daily civic duty? Not till 1954.
The Constitution contains no mention of God, but the Constitution does state that the Constitution and treaties signed by the President and ratified by the Senate shall be the supreme law of the land, And the 1797 Treaty of Tripoli states in article 11:
"As the Government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the law, religion or tranquility of Musselmen; and as the states never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mohometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinion shall ever produce an interruption of harmony existing between the two countries."
The problem isn't with drug addled ACLU hippies, it is with the founding fathers who somehow forgot to put God in the Constitution, and the people who wrote the original Pledge of Allegiance, and with President John Adams and the Senate of 1797 that all said that America is not about promoting any religion, it is about giving people the freedom to believe whatever they want while keeping goverment out of the business of religion.

I listen to Bill all the time, on some topics I wish I could reach through the radio and grab him by his puny little neck and O'Rielly factor his face  Butt then again thats what he wants me to feel or else he wouldn't have a show

What a nice prayer. I would be praying in school just like David did in his home. He even opened the window and prayed out load to be sure to be heard noing it was illegal in the land to pray at that time to his God. I am so sick of all this pc.

As I have mentioned before, more than 80 per cent of Finns have the very same faith. That's why we have religius content in schools. Those students, who don't belong to the church or have other religion, can freely skip those situations. Back here it is running smoothly.

I don't particularly care much about this whole thing. What a ridiculous waste of energy and time spent on this. BOTH sides are to blame and so are the media. It sells.
Merry Christmas works fine for me but I don't plan on stringing up waitresses or clerks either. Happy Holidays mostly stems from corporate America's fear of losing a buck or two than anything else.

I am an extremely patriotic peron, however, when in school I would never say the pledge of allegiance.
My reason for not doing so was the following......
*Though I am not nor was I ever an extremely religious person, I have a strong faith and I'm pretty devout. (I'm Jewish)
*Despite there actually being 613 commandments, We tend to only think of 10. The second commandment essentially states no idolatry.
In a way even at a young age I felt that people were praying to the flag as opposed to stating there love for a country. That made me uncomfortable.
* Jewish people will not use G-d's name unless in temple. Their are hundreds of names for G-d. In hebrew you are allowed to say one particuliar version when refering to the dude upstairs if you are not statng prayer. This is Hashem, which translates as THE NAME. Other versions are only said in prayer.
*Learning at an early age what our founding fathers wrote and "believed" what was right for this country.
As Floridian already posted.
I would gladly lay down my life to support our nation and to protect our rights and that of our future.
Those are just my feelings when it comes to the original post and the whole topic.
To me things should not be mixed.

The pledge of alligiance was written by Baptist Minister and Socialist (Christian) Francis Bellamy.
The 1880's was a decade rife with dissension. There were 10,000 strikes involving more than 700,000 workers. Demonstrations were bitter and often violent, as in 1886 Chicago with the Hay Market Riot.
Reformers, such as Francis Bellamy attempted to remind Americans of shared principles upon which the nation had been built. He urged cooperation to effect vast and enduring changes.
To promote the message of unity, Francis Bellamy, an editor of the widely circulated magazine Youth's Companion wrote a salute to the flag that he hoped would be recited on the Columbus Day ceremonies throughout the country.
(May 1st, 1893, President Grover Cleveland turned the key for the display of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago at Jackson Park, 400 yrs since discovery by Columbus. The biggest money maker of the fair was a 200 ft tall design by a young bridge builder G.W.G. Ferris Jr. 36 wood paneled cars carried sixty passengers twice around for 50 cents a ride.
The fair's scheduled date of opening was Oct. 12, 1892, but was delayed seven months due to financial crisis of the lingering 1880's. 27 million attended.)
The Pledge of Allegiance was to encourage a nation indivisible, that promised its citizens one and all, liberty and justice. Bellamy deliberately omitted the word equality, well aware that his editors would never approve publication of the pledge if it hinted that women and those of other races in America were considered equals.
Edward Bellamy, cousin to Francis was a journalist and the fiction writer of "Duke of Stockbridge".
His book, "In Looking Backward 2000-1887", a tale of time travel, what was needed he believed, was cooperation, true solidarity, full equality and through an overthrow of capitalism.
His book sold millions when 10,000 was a best-seller. Clubs formed due to it, the Boston Nationalist Club was one of the Bellamy Clubs and most influencial. Nationalists were supported by the Populist Party and feminist groups. The interesting thing about the book was that he envisioned music in the sitting rooms of each home, debit cards making money unnecessary and huge warehouses providing citizens with what they desire in the way of goods. (Amazon, Sam's Club, etc)
The World Columbian Exposition stood as a bright and shining city in the middle of squalor, urging visitors to buy lights, appliances, Cracker Jacks, Cream of Wheat, and Juicy Fruit gum, intimating a glorious future as people feared for their jobs and savings. *

Hi guys i know that political correctness has been a issue on the board.I really wasn't thinking of that when I posted it.A global thinker I'm not.I thought it was great that a kid was upset about what he believes was a loss of rights and put pen to paper to express himself.now days getting kids to stick to their beliefs and state them to others is hard no one wants to stand out.it seems well thought out wether you believe in the theory or not.don't get me wrong this is a great discussion but it was really not about pc.I guess you can say I'm a dreamer but i don't believe everything has political tone .yes I know this has political and religeous tones which does bring discussion and although not here arguments.i guess what I'm trying to simply say in my ramblings is when I see a picture I like I enjoy it and sometimes share it.I don't nessicarilly want to figure out the artist motives or vissions I just think what a beautiful picture love the tone wish I was artistic.same here.I hope this makes sense but I find that people who know me get really scared when I start making sense to them....
Minnie who's looking out the window and enjoying the winter wonderland and not trying to figure out the effects to my taxes because of the snow plows working lots of overtime .does that make sense ? if so be afraid be very afraid...

I just wanted to get in the bit about the Ferris wheel for Luke down in Florida. He was a fan of Mr. Ferris up in PA and used to post roller coaster pictures for us.

Yeah, but then we would have to remove the references to the Roman and Norse Gods, and how many of us could live without Satur(n's)day? Do you really wanna piss off the God of Thunder and do away with Thor'sday (aka Thursday)? And how much do you think you'd be getting if you insulted Freyja/Frida, (Goddess of Love) by renaming Friday? We are a culture founded on pagan roots, and those roots are spread through our language.
This fact pissed off the Quakers, who renamed the days with numbers (the first day, the second day, etc). That never got far.

Us Christians have the same'ol same'ol dried turkey, cold sliced ham or a greasy goose for EVERY holiday. Same squash, same veggies. Nothing ever changes. Boring, boring, boring.
But your and your people know how to eat! My ex-next door neighbor (she's gone now) was a 100% Jewish lady. Holidays were her favorite times of the year.
And I really, I mean really, ate good. I miss her.
