The beast has a cousin

For the past 8 nights now, I've been woken up by a milder, yet just as annoying beast. Wakes me up about 2-3 hrs after I fall asleep, but this one will not let me go back to sleep. I can't abort the pain either. I would put it at a kip 7, except I cannot go back to bed. It seems that I may have another herniated disk, this one in my neck (c6/c7). It's hitting the nerve that comes down my neck, across my shoulderblade, down the back of my arm, around the elbow and all the way down to the index finger and thumb on my left arm. My index finger has had pins & needles since last monday night. I've seen the chiro just about every day since last tuesday, and although I've gotten better, he feels this could be serious. I'm scheduled for an MRI tomorrow morning at 7:30 am, and have an appt on Friday with the doc that operated the herniated disks in my lower back last april. Funny thing is I'm functioning OK without much sleep. I guess dancing with the beast for so long has trained me well

Marlin, Check into getting traction decompressive therapy, all PT units that are any good have it, and quite a few chiro's too, I had a herniated T-1 and it did wonders, without having to have surgery. Try some naproxen in the meantime for the pain. If you have any questions or need anyhting, PM me. Ben

YUP YUP YUP......got that goin on rite now myself......but I have alot of damage to my neck so it never really goes away. Doc mentiond an MRI for my lower spine the other day but he is lettin me hold off cuz last time I paid 600 bucks out of MY pocket and that was for my neck MRI......bet the lower spine costs more if it takes longer ? Even if I have met my deductable I bet I end up payin a good 800 out of pocket which I can NOT do rite now. Does your ins pay for your MRI's ??? Jus curious how others get by.....I have decent ins too but they jus don't like MRI's. I feel like I have a spike between my shoulder blades rite now.......drivein me nuts ! Nothin seem's to kill it ! I get pain on one eye from it too. Strange resemblence Pam

Thanks all! Pam, I had the MRI done this morning, it only took 25 minutes. THe lower back one took about 45 minutes. My insurance covers everything except a yearly deductible. Because of the steroid injectiosn first, and the surgery later, I hit my out of pocket of $1000 back in April, so I'm not paying anything now. I have Aetna HMO. Left index finger is still numb. The pain for me is from the shoulder past the elbow to the forearm.

Thanks Sanna! Got the MRI results in, very fast had it done this morning and the results were done this afternoon. I do have a moderate herniation in C6/C7, and bulging disks in C4/C5 and C5/C6. Chiro recomends the decompression that Ben suggested. Will see the pain specialist on friday who will likely do the same, as he ordered that for my last herniated disk.... Just like CH. I know tonite I'll wake up 2 or 3 hrs after falling asleep, and won't be able to go back to sleep..... Jose
