Oldies but Goodies...

Yesterday I watched an old rerun of Welcome Back Kotter...remember that show? I know you do. Don’t try to act like I’m the only one that owned one of their lunch boxes . I was totally in love with John Travolta then. All of a sudden I started thinking about all those good shows I used to watch as a kid…like Wonder Woman…I totally digged her glass plane…my brother was always drooling over her. And What’s Happenin??? Remember the fat Mom who would suffocate her son with her hugs? “Momma, I can’t breathe”…LMAO! And my brother's fave...Charlie's Angels. He had that famous Farrah Fawcett poster in his room on his wall for years. I think he still has it... So many other good ones too…Bionic Woman, Incredible Hulk (so sad, they always picked on him), the Love Boat (though Julie got on my last nerves…and the doctor who always got all the women…I never did understand the whole socks to the knees deal). Which ones am I forgetting?…they just don’t make TV shows like they used to…and perhaps we should be happy about that... Langa

Rock For me, when I was little I loved Thundercats & She-Ra. As a teen, it was All American Hero (I still love that theme song), The A-Team, MASH & Benny Hill (was always shocked that they showed topless girls on TV, LOL)

Roy and Dale I remember (still miss them) and the Beav - golly! And who could forget the Nelsons or Mickey Mouse Club - well some of you (most of you in fact) weren't born early enough to remember most of them, but that Tim Considine was grovey back in the 50s. Even in black and white. And most of us "old timers" learned to dance on "American Bandstand". My SON had the Farrah poster in his room. I even actually watched MTV one time (for a research paper I was doing on Rock 'n Roll for college - torture!) I REMEMBER when the Beatles had SHORT hair and parents called them "long haired *&^&%%$$!!!!" Yep, you're right -- they just don't make 'em like they used to. Our kids and grandkids just don't know what they're missing... Where are Roy and Dale when you need 'em. Happy Trails to ya..... Hugs BD

Some early tough gang influence watching the Top Cat bunch. Set in the Alleys of New York, "Top Cat" tells the story of a gang of low-life cats (Choo Choo, Benny the Ball, Fancy-Fancy, Spook and Brian) with their charismatic Leader, Top Cat. With ability and mischief, Top Cat will always try to get rich gambling, to eat for free, or to play jokes on someone, but he is always being watched by Officer Dibble, who is very strict and fierce with them, but in fact is a friend to all of them.

Thanks kids. Like Pattik, my "oldies" are mostly from the 50s. Weekends were Matt Dillon and Perry Mason in our house. So many old sitcoms but I never missed the 50s SF stuff on weekends. Rocky Jones, Captain Midnight and the obscure Science Fiction Theater. All pre- TZ and Outer Limits. We have PAX here. Every day they run Ozzie, I Married Joan and My Little Margie...The thing is I saw them all when I was around ten or so. God I'm old. We were Carol Burnet Show freaks here and remember her when Garry Moore introduced her....this is old stuff. Too bad Police Squad didn't last on tv too. It kills me. Charlie

OMG I LOVE Carol Burnett!! Especially Tim Conway. He's a comedic genius. Oh, and Mork and Mindy, Bosom Buddies, Eight is Enough, Three's Company, Newhart, Dr. Who (my step dad was a HUGE fan), Wonder Woman (yes, I loved it too, had the Underoos panties AND top ), and a whole bunch more I can't think of at the moment. I watched a TON of TV when I was little. Inbetween my Mom's 3 marriages and her not getting home until late from work, it helped me to escape. Thanks for the flashbacks... p.s. just read on Yahoo news that Wendy Jo Sperber, who starred in Bosom Buddies, just died from breast cancer. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051201/ap_on_en_mo/obit_sperber;_ylt=Apf27W iXLDnOf.nEznf0MpWs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3b2NibDltBHNlYwM3MTY-

F.B.I. w/ Efrem Zimbalist Jr. The guy with the real serious voice says..." a Quinn-Martin production' I used to love all those 70's crime shows Barnaby Jones, Ellery Queen, McCloud, Hawai 5-O, Cannon. Loved the way they were always in "Acts" and the final scene was the epiloque...

South Africa only got TV in the late 70's and then only 2 hours a night. I remember the news and Carol Burnett. Played outside under the streetlamps with the whole neighbourhood mostly. The Stars in my youth were the stars in the sky. Me uneducated, me wild, me bushbaby

Jaz... playing under streetlamps gave you a helluva better education that being stuck in front of the tube. Have Gun Will Travel. The western too good to be repeated. Actually it was kept out of reruns for decades, I think because family or somesuch owned the thing. It was good. Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. One of my favorites. girly stuff.... Back in the 50s there was a weekly Sherlock Holmes production that I think it was a half hour. I was hooked. It's mentioned now and then but not rerun. There was a McCarthy era/cold war/red scare show with Richard Carlson called "I Led Three Lives." It would be fun to see again. I'm trying to remember the guy that it was based on. Damn. A famous double agent of the period. Helen: You saw ALL that stuff from Hollywood? I'm sorry. Dukes of Hazzard in Britain? BBC America runs a ton of Britcoms and lots of old nonsense. I like a lot of them and the Kumars is pretty good too. Fun stuffl. Charlie

| There are some shows that I've never seen more than a few minutes of. This is one and Dallas is another. I still don't know who shot JR. Weirdly, I found Twin Peaks hard to avoid. Shows ta go ya. The movies are horrible. I'm such a killjoy. I liked "The Fugitive." Just about the entire country was tuned into the last episode. It was an institution. We all watched Father Knows Best, Lassie, and so many light comedies. Everybody watched the same stuff back then. Not much choice. Garry Moore was on forever too. Alan King and Carol Burnett got famous there. My favorite variety show from that era is Your Show of Shows. Sid Ceaser and Imogene Coca. The stuff they did then is still hilarious. Mel Brooks, Neil Simon and Woody Allen all wrote stuff for that show. Others great writers too. Charlie

Does anyone remember Fast Times At Ridgemont High when that guy had a beautiful girl waiting for him in a room at a huge hotel while he went for drinks. He forgot which room she was in. The whole time he was searching for her they played this song. He never found her and missed out on his chance to score!! LOL And who could forget the scene where actress Phoebe Cates gets out the swimming pool. They played this song UNsolved

Charlie we had (and still do have) LOADS of American TV programmes here. I only listed a few. I used to love Petrocelli and Policewoman too, Ellery Queen was another one I loved. Dallas was unmissable (as I found out for real in July ) and so was Twin Peaks. The one thing I will NEVER forgive you lot for exporting though is Jerry Springer I do like our TV programmes but I figured most of you wouldn't have heard of many of them so I didn't bother listing them edited to add and I did like the Waltons so just shoot me now!
