went back to my Dr. yesterday to get the physician's form for the unemployment thing filled out (how the heck am I supposed to talk to potential employers if I can't complete an intelligent sentence??!) so anyway, I went and talked to him, and he's been my Dr for a long time and he knows me pretty well. After talking to him and trying to explain what I've been like on the topamax and my daughter of course chimed in with "she nearly burned the house down" -WHICH I DIDN'T I JUST TORCHED THE BURNER COVERS CUZ I FORGOT THAT I TURNED THE STOVE ON - he decided I'm having severe reaction and that some people have worse side effect than others ....umm, DUH... so he's taking me off the dopey and putting me back on the verapamil for the duration. I'm figuring just a couple more weeks (keep your collective fingers crossed!) and this cycle should be over. It'll be nice to come back to the land of the living again.

I had to add this on: the dr said it would take about 48 hours for it to get out of my system...ok, thats cool. took the vrap yesterday, only mild dings a couple of times so I'm pleased so far. But still having this little tiny problem with forgetting stuff. I needed to slice up some sausage to put in the freezer, and its easier to slice if it is slighly frozen first. Put the sausage in the freezer, set the timer so I wouldn't forget about it (good for me, thinking ahead on that one!).....timer goes off......and I knew...ok, timer dinging to remind me of............................................. ummmmmm................................................................ OH SHIT, WHAT DID I SET THE TIMER TO REMIND ME TO DO??????????????????? I'm running around the house like a mad woman, did I leave water running for something, something lit or on that needs to be off?? Hannah (daughter) help me figure this out!!!!! I was LOSING IT!!! I finally gave up, totally frustrated and very anxious. Got a glass of iced tea........iced tea.......needs ice.....from the freezer.

POST IT NOTES!!!! Put on Freezer -- Put on Stove -- Put on Faucet.... Ice is good, but post it notes work better. Hugs BD (P.S. -- Not laughing at you honey, just with you... instead of letting the sausage "freeze slightly" just let it "thaw slightly" - works about as good.)

Jen I just had to laugh! At least you will have some good memories and stories to tell one-day if you remember them

It is exactly one year ago I was having a psychotic reaction to Dopeymax. This friggine drug companies are trying to kill me. It was the single most horrible experience of my life and that is saying a lot from one who suffered immense pain, poverty, homelessness, death etc. At least when I went through my shit , I still had my mind. You lose that and it is game over. Iwas suicidal and hearing things. Verrry scary. I still vividly remember how I felt and can't believe that was me. They should ban thant drug I swear.

I had to reduce it gradually too, in spite of horrible reactions to it I couldn't stop it dead either. Please be careful Jen, check with a pharmacist as they know more about drugs than doctors do. Hope you are still doing well! love Helen

I asked my dr about the ramping down part and he said not to worry about that. He said that if I had epilepsy, then the sudden stop could cause me to seize, but because I don't, I can just stop- so I did. I haven't had any problem so far. I haven't taken any since Tuesday night when I only took 50 mgs instead of the 100. Then back to the Vrap on Weds.

Jennifer, Do what you like but know that it is hown to cause seizures in non seizure patients when stopped abruptly. Just a word of caution as with everything else we share here.

because I have been off it a couple of days, do you think I should go back on it at a lower dosage (like the 50mgs for a week), then split it again for another week? Or just stay off it?

I would think that since you have already been off of it with no ill effect for a few days then you're probably safe. It sucks when we want and need to take our docs words for gold and sometimes they are just wrong or not updated with info. Sorry for the scare. Wishing you well ME

No sorry's necessary, I appreciate the concern. I called the pharmacist and asked. He said that because I was only on it a short time, I didn't have to ramp down, but if you are a long-term user, you definitely have to. He said I have nothing to be concerned about Thanks again for the advice(s) above.
