talk about a let down!

in light of all the other stuff going on, this is SO unimportant! but i just need to get it off my chest. I found a couple of old friends on another website and got a msg to them, they immediately responded with an excited HEY! GREAT TO HEAR FROM YA! response and asked me to email them at their home email addy. So I did, and sent a long (but not too long) summarized update of the last few years to catch up. I got the wife's reply this morning and I was so excited! Got my coffee cup ready, got the cigs and ashtray, lit one and hit open all ready to enjoy "hearing" from her.... and it was the equivalent of a post-it note. Why do people do that??? why do they say they'll keep in touch and then don't? Like the "friends" from work? I've contacted pple who said they were so bummed about what happened and how much they miss me, yada yada yada and how they want to "keep in touch", so I do, then nothing. sometimes I feel like Charlie Brown and the only reason I don't keep my spamblocker on high is so that i at least get SOMETHING in my inbox! ok, I'm done saying 'waaaaah'.

Jen, don't feel too bad. They are probably like me. I have 2 best female friends outside of CH. They contact me regularly and write looong letters, chat on the phone non-stop. Me, I let them know once a year I'm alive or that I'm living in a new country. They are good friends for many years because they understand who I am. I don't like phones, I'm bad with keeping in touch. The only place where I am most regular are here at CH.com and in my kids lives. People differ, they would love more communication from me but one thing they know is that when they need me I'm always available, so they accept my flaws. Then again some people are just not worth having as friends and sometimes that can be me, depending on their needs. So don't worry, it is not because of you they act this way.

| This explains me to a T. But it also upsets me when I get the guilt trip even after I EXPLAIN to my friends that this is just how I am. Doesn't mean I've forgotten about them, as I do think of them often, but my life seems to fly by me and when I pick up the phone and say hello, it's just like there was never any time inbetween chats. Ya know? Jennifer, try not to let it get you down, ok? hugs, mel

Now I'm on a guilt trip..... I'm writing all my old friends (outside CH) and letting them know I'm alive and well and living in shreveport and what's been going on the last 100 years. I've even bad about not even sending Christmas cards...... I've got pictures of everyone's grandkids all over the house - and I don't think I've sent any of Caleb to anyone. Now that's bad!!!! Guess we're just all too busy - we know we're ok and there's plenty of time to play catch up when we get the time.... right???? Hugs BD

That's the thing, I guess I'm getting a taste of my own medicine. That was one of my 2005 resolutions: 1. get the weight off and stick to workin' out- check. 2. get financially more in control- lose job. 3. to be a better friend than I have been - learned (learning) to focus on other people and put my own crap in perspective a little more and trying to be more open to friendships (very hard for me) - nothing. resolutions for 2006 get fat, broke, and stay a loner. No probs! (j/k) Hey Barbara- off subject, you mentioned taking the dopey at night to sleep off the side effects. Because I've been taking 1/2 am & 1/2 pm, do you think I'll get slammed during the day if I wait till pm to take the full dosage? scared here. Usually if I wait even till 11am to take the first 50mgs, the shadowy stuff starts and stays all day, so i'm a lil nervous about waiting.

Jennifer, people indeed are different. I have friends who email me every day and some who let me know twice a year that they are alive. We must accept each other just as we are. I tend to email my friends asap, which means that they will have to wait max 3 days. I did lose one 'friend', who got upset because I didn't email him every day but every second/third. I nearly email him that I do have a life to live also and not only his mails to reply to...but you know me. I'm too nice to write something like that... Best wishes, Sanna

interesting the different responses from men and women. I take it the men's responses of keeping the mouthes shut = quicherbitchinboutit and the women pipe right up about relationships. either way- I am a total f'up in the women/women friend relationship department. I don't know how to make 'em or maintain 'em, although I tried. good to know its not easy to do.

Jen ... Count me in as the "guilty as can be" group on returning emails and such. I have a folder in my "box" marked "reply." I'm so far backed up, I just can't keep up. Even to those very close to me. But ... for those who've known me over the years, some of my excuse could be that when I finally do respond, I go the opposite direction and instead of "wrote a long letter on a short piece of paper" I go into my old nickname mode "Tolstoy" and ramble on and on. Watch out though, as I'm trying to get more involved with my family here on the boards ... "Tolstoy" could be revived! (I can hear the "oh no's!!! already) Dave PS: Anyone who can first name the song and group I just quoted above will recieve some type of reward.)

Wellll, you got me started. Spent the weekend catching up. Wrote everyone I've been "meaning" to and lo and behold - got replies from most. Everyone is till alive and had a great Thanksgiving. Kids are doing well - some have moved away from home. Great - this catching up -- should do it more often.... Hugs BD

I guess if you're organized and do it often you don't have to play catch up, but I was WAYYYY behind, so now I'm caught up. I have good intentions of staying caught up, but knowing me.... a few months in the future I'll be playing catch up again.... Hugs BD
