On the news in Portland OR Wed night, construction workers in a new subdivision, decided to do a fried turkey. The house, 80% complete, was 60% destroyed when the turkey fryer was placed in front of the freshly sided garage.

..and pray tell, what do you do with 25 gals of cooking oil?????????? Blecch! Sorry, slow-roasted, all day, so the smell torments you  long before it's ready to eat!

Simmer the bones in water, low, with some quatered onions and a couple-a-three stalkes of celery.  Great stock for a turkey gumbo.

If not now, strain and freeze until later, when it gets really cold outside.  Don't throw away the best part.

You are on you're way to good cookin'.

In America they're called fries, elsewhere they're chips, and the best you'll ever eat are at home.

Start by washing too many potatos and cutting them thick.  Dry with a tea-towel.

Immobilise smoke alarm and heat deep fry with clean oil until one degree short of flash-point.  Add chips, just don't overload it, and give them about three minutes then drain them thoroughly and place on paper towel. Cook the next batch and so on.

Allow to cool for three or four beers then repeat the process, taking them out when they're golden brown. Switch smoke alarms back on, serve piping hot with salt and lashings of vinegar.

Cheers.

Thumbs up Mr Brain!

and if you don't possess a smoke alarm, just hang around the chip pot and keep the beer ready to douse the flame...

DAMN IT this thread got me hungry!!!  And since I don't have any deep fried turkey (which is AWESOME btw), I fried up some leftover potato cassarole made with hashbrowns, cheddar cheese, sour cream, onions and garlic, then threw some cold venison ham on my plate.  I'm only pissed off I don't have any freakin EGGS to make too.  Hubby used the last of them for his garlic & mustard pickled eggs. Sad  I am gonna head to the store this morning, but it's 10 degrees and my hair is still wet.  Don't want it to snap off, hehe.

P.S. today seems a good day to start the Christmas cookies! Wink

Real Americans don't have "tea towels."

Makes me hungry too. Mom used to make fries/chips in her electric frier. Smelled good and spattered all over the kitchen. Yummy stuff though.

I can see where my technique falls apart here.  As far as standing over the stove being unlady like...

I'm not certain, but in some (non flamable) situations there could be some value - LOL. Shocked
