Welp..you guys were right..and I thank you for giving me the heads up.My 15 yr.old daughter was put on 25mg Topamax 3 weeks ago..ramping up 25 mg a week till she was at 100 mg @ day.She is currently at 75 mg @day & I am SLOWLY taking her off of it.She can barely function..when she isnt sleeping..she is trying to remember what she said or did just an hour ago...When I told her we were going to go off of it,she cried & thank ed me and said "Thank You mom,I dont like what this is doing to me" She didnt tell me how crappy she felt because she was "afraid the doc would be mad" I informed her that "the doc works for us,we pay him & I dont care if he gets mad" (she may as well learn to be proactive at a young age!) Thank You all for the heads up as to what to look for..I probably would have just hoped the effects would have minimized without your input. Much Love Shari

Shari, you're a good mom for listening to your daughter and helping her with her meds. Topey has some sucky side effects which can be hard to deal with as an adult- and probably even harder as a teen. I especially liked your response to her worries about the Dr's reaction! He IS there to help you, not punish you for taking an active role and participation in your own health care! Get with your Dr. to find other meds that will work for her, and discuss with him all side effects openly. Let him know how the topey affected your daughter too. Its a good thing to have an open and honest relationship with your phys so that you can work together. Good luck to you and your daughter, and a special blessing to you Mom! You done good.

Try giving her the dose at night (all of it). I found out that I don't have the bad effects if I take it that way. It might help. But don't come off it too quick - could cause worse effects. Hugs BD

Yeah, it worked great, but without any side effects. I probably had less side effects than anyone who posted on this board. It's been my miracle drug. My neuro is suggesting his patients take it at night now. You sleep the side effects off and aren't dopey during the day. Hope it works better for her.... Hugs BD
