Jumping up and down with excitement today. Have actually got an appointment through to see a Neurologist. Thanks you lot for giving me that push. Its only taken 25 years. God it feels like getting a big christmas present God what a weirdo I am Been reading lots of your weather reports on here. Its always meant to be dull and non-descript over here in Brit, but its bloody freezing!!!! Something is definately going on up there Love to you all out there Shaz

Oh Shaz that's fantastic! I'm really pleased for you, when is it? This side of Xmas or not til after? Make sure he prescribes O2 (officially) as with the O2 regulations changing next year you don't want to be caught out by a little piece of officialdom. I trust no one when it comes to ensuring my precious O2 supply Take care love Helen XXX

Thanks Helen. Appt is 2nd February 2006. I am amazed, coz I know there is a really long waiting list to see this guy, so was not expecting an appointment for ages. Will definately be pushing him about the O2. My GP put me on verapimil right at the end of my last episode and wants me to say on them for the next couple of months. I hate it when he tries new things towards the end of a cycle, because I never know whether its working or not. Shaz

Verap is the first line of defence for CH as far as preventatives go, its a good med. Make sure you get the BP version and not the SR version though as the SR's are not effective. Doctors often prescribe the SR (sustained relief) but its been found to be not so effective. You have quite long cycles don't you? As a rule preventatives aren't usually given for episodics as they often take too long to kick in to be worthwhile and there is a school of thought that they prolong it. The jury is out on that one though! Alot of the time a course of verap is started in tandem with something else such as a steroid, prednisolone, this is because the steroids wil kick in almost instantly but you can't be on them long term whereas the verap will take up to two weeks to kick in. The pred will give you some cover while the verap builds up in your system. There are pro's and cons with steroids though and I'd definitely recommend looking them up before taking them. Good luck with it all anyway, just get pain free! Thats all I want from you Helen

Shaz Good to hear, I'm down in Perth the capital City of West Australia seing a Nuro now, took 3 months & a 2000km flight to get in but thing are looking good. One word of advice if you need it, I took the advice of our family here and came prepared with everything I had down loaded from this site and others and when I saw the Nuro last Monday he as good as admitted that I probably knew as much about CH as he did and things are looking good All the very best for when you go and keep your family informed. Kind Regards Barry

| - just my two cents: not this cycle, cuz this is a particularly ugly one, but the last cycle (last year) was given vrap as preventive and frova as abortive, worked like a dream and even shortened my normally 4 month cycle to just under 3 with sporatic shadows following. Good luck to you at the neuro! pf wishes and much peace, Jen
