Something I've been wondering about

How many of you have been exposed to mercury or lead? I mean: have actual knowledge of touching or fillings or like that?
For example: My brothers and I remember playing with a broken thermometer and rolling the little balls of mercury liquid around on the floor or in our palm. That was long before the real dangers were known, we were young and frankly, very dumb.
One of my bros says his fillings have mercury something in them and his dentist said no point in removing them cuz the stuff has leeched out by now. I have lead fillings.
So now, the dangers and (word unavailable to  my brain right  now) are evident and I know it affects brain and nerves. My oldest bro has this trembling disorder stems from his brain & nerves. Middle bro is a dillusional alchie, next oldest bro has lyme disease (yes from a tick bite), rhume- ok, can't spell it arthritis, and every nasty symtom of lyme you can possibly imagine. I have ch. My baby sis was never expsoed. She has no probs. Coincidence?
So, my queston is, how many of you have had any exposuere to mercury, or maybe even lead?

Jennifer, I had that same question in mind when searching for the cause of CH in me.

Because I've worked previously in environments where these substance levels were not controlled.

Went for blood tests.  Nothing... levels insignificant.

We did that in 9th grade science as well. Lots of it in fillings but that's not to worry. Lots of lead around when I was a kid but we didn't get mixed up with it much.

I didn't deal with it much.

As a boy, I was frequently exposed to mercury and PCB's from discarded power transformers.  Liked to collect the mercury and make it merge/seperate.  It was a site we played at as children until the EPA eventually took it  over as a HazMat site and reportedly cleaned it up.  Hadn't given it much consideration.

Did you eat any lead based paint? How about burning a magnesium engine block and standing in the smoke as it burned? Inhaling that can’t be too good for you.

Mercury or “silver” fillings also contain tin, zinc, silver and copper. The old “mercury fillings will kill you” scam has been around for a long time. Ain’t no truth to it.

You might have lead fillings if you are twice as old as BobG and Charlie together. Grin

Only hdildo and the crooked dentists referred to in the Quackwatch link know of people getting mercury poisoning from tooth fillings.

Coulda sworn that's what some dentist told me that's what they were made of... but then, I've been wrong before.
But then again, I never told anyone here how old I am either  Wink

hmmmmmm.... I wonder then...... can tiny mercury balls screw up something in our tiny brains and our tiny trigeminal nerves and cause our "tiny migraines"?

nice discussion until someone brings up the subject of "chelation" and the miraculous method of "cleansing" all these toxic metals from opur system, which is the eventuality when discussions about how shit you were exposed to 30 years ago can be resolved, and the eventual payday for someone who does such stuff.

I remember the joy, in our old Elementary school, of playing with the loose insulation around all the steam pipes. We'd toss the insulation up and down the pipe, and the dust from the frayed ends would build up under the pipe ends, and "drift around" I suppose. Never contracted "lovetosuesomebodiosis" yet. Just a fun memory now. Loved playing with mercury too as well as all kinds of stupid stuff that, as someone else said, only people with hazmat suits now touch.

scott, meds are kicking in so had a hard time following your post- bear with me please.

Not contracting "lovetosuesomebodyosis" (very funny btw), just playing a  game of connect the dots.
mercury dot  or lead dot to brain dot to nerve dot to ouch dot.
Yet again, here is someone else saying the same thing, all but one person as a control has said yes they had direct contact with it. (did I make sense?)
There's a lot of crap we messed with as kids that now qualifies us as walking biohazards. Did we breed a new crop of ch'ers? (sorry for the crude way of wording it) but is that why the kids are getting this? Is this why my daughter has horrible headaches? No pattern established yet but I see the pain she goes thru.
No harm in asking questions, but I just gotta ask. I gotta keep asking. There has to be an answer somewhere.

not giving you a hard time.

just have seen this line of questioning a few times.

sure, "the control" mostly answered yes. But, talk to a control of people who don't have CH, and little boys and girls of our era, "pre-love canal" all played with stupid stuff. We inhaled lead paint, we mushed mercury balls, we licked batteries, sniffed all kinds of fumes, whatever. So, I'd say ask those without CH if they did those things and then you've got your answer.

it's not a waste. maybe some of that stuff has damaged us in some unforeseen, and unseen way. but, from the outcome of previous threads on the subject, its not THE answer.

I didn't think you were giving me a hard time, and I didn't take it that way- I appreciate the discussion Smiley

I think you're right, those that don't have ch SHOULD be asked, and ask I will. As I mentioned in the original post, my older bros have some weird medical shit other than ch; baby sis has nothing.

I'm not sure of old threads on the subject and I apologize for my ignorance. However, I'll try to research it in the archives though my puter is painfully slow. Care to give me a heads-up on a timeframe?

Also, I agree with you too that it may not be THE answer, but again, I am just trying to connect dots. I dont' claim to be a doctor or scientist or even pretend that I am going to save us all. Just thinkin out loud Smiley

Jen it is good that we all question and question until one day someone will come up with an answer!

And you don't need to be a scientist either.  I still believe it is people like us that WILL one day find the answer to the cause.

The day we just except the answers the "professionals" give us, that will be the day we lose this battle.
