Am wracking my brain, trying to think of an appropriate way to celebrate Mule Day. Prades, parties, mule shaped cookies. The possibilities are endless.
One thing is clear. The fact that I responded to this thread does not speak well for my time management skills. I really should get a life.

The offspring of a female horse and a male donkey, mules can be either male (john) (sounds like his name too) or female (molly). Most of them (98 to 99 percent) are sterile. In fact, only 60 live births of foals to mules were reported worldwide between 1527 and 1990. (Jonny must have been one of these)
The Romans had a saying: Cum mula peperit, which means “when a mule foals,” the rough equivalent to “once in a blue moon.”
One can expect an average of 15 to 18 years of work from a healthy mule. (I think we already got more than that from our Jonny)
Mules are considered to be more intelligent than horses. (They think with their heads, I think) They pace themselves while working. ("BURP" - Jonny) They do not overeat or drink too much, and they know if a plant is edible by smelling it. (Just ask our Jonny to smell the roses)

George Washington bred the first mules in the United States at Mount Vernon. He received a Jack as a gift from King Charles III of Spain (His Latin background) in 1785. He used the jack to sire mules whose mothers were thoroughbred mares. (He has a taste for ladies that can say:"I have a headache tonight"  He named the jack “Royal Gift.”
Mules require about two-thirds as much feed as a horse of the same size. (Just give him cheese and beer but he might love a roll in the hay) 
Most mules avoid water and unlike horses will not jump into the canal when they are hot or thirsty. (Not him, must be from his mother's side)
Mules are hardier than horses and suffer from few diseases. (Proves that Lithium works) Veterinary expenses are considerably less for mules than for horses. (Definately when inhaling O2 from your welding bottles)
Many mules do not like dogs. (He doesn't, that is why his relationship with Don failed, he likes female cats)
Mules never forget and never forgive.  They are always thinking and resent being hurt or mistreated. (Or anyone else in his family) 
Mules can actually aim a kick for best results. If a mule misses, it is because it intended to.
“National Mule Day” (Jonny's Day) is October 26. It was proclaimed a national holiday in 1985, the 200th Anniversary of the arrival of “Royal Gift” in America.
