Well, just found out today that my father-in-law has MS. He's had it for the past 4 or 5 years according to the doctors (he was never one to go in for ANYthing). They also gave him a time of 4 more years. This sucks!! THEN, about 2 hours later, I get a call from my Grandma. She's in the hospital with another compression fracture of the vertebrae. For those that know me, you know she is all I have left. everyone else has passed on. When she goes, my sense of any connection to my family goes with her. I know she'll be OK, but her previous fracture was also reinjured. It'll take quite a bit of time to heal, and eventually down the road, she's going to need to be confined to a wheelchair. She's not even 75 yet. I'm sorry I'm unloading on you all, but tonight it's just too much....

Thanks BMonee. Yes, it is hard getting older. I just said to my husband tonight how I hate getting older, because it means the ones you love end up hurting and then dieing. My father-in-law is already bad off. His speech is slurred often, his balance is getting bad and he can't even start the generator because he has no muscle control in his upper chest and arms. He's in pain a lot and his 57th birthday is tomorrow. What a crappy birthday present. As for my Grandma, I am her one and only surviving relative. She had no other children other than my mom, and my mom had no other children except for me. I'm all my Grandma has left. I have Power of Attorney, and it's going to kill me when I have to make certain decisions. Yup. Growing older SUCKS.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm very sorry for venting here. You all have enough to deal with without me unloading on you. The last thing I want is to become a chronic whiner, and I think some of you understand what I'm saying... Anyway, from now on you won't hear me talk about the shit here. I love you guys to much to drag you along with me. mel Pam- You hit the nail on the head.

I'm so sorry, Mel... My best to both your grandma and father-in-law. You all are in my prayers. But don't be sorry about letting us know. We might not share genes, but we're your family too. This is the right place to vent. Best wishes, Sanna

Life is harsh no matter what age we are Mellie. You will miss your Grams like a tooth, or heart, ache and feel guilty because you didn't do this or that for her. It will bring you down if you let. And it will happen to your children and their's, etc. Now, take a look at my generation. I have a lot of "if I had only done this or that differently" days, when I think about when I brought up my children. These are the days that YOU and your peers CAN change. If only I'd held my daughter a little more often, or gave her a lot more hugs when SHE wanted them, maybe she wouldn't have pushed me away when she turned 13. Things like that. I beat myself up a lot, although my kids all turned out to be people I like and am proud of, I'm the one who knows that I could have done better, back then. I'm the one who sits and thinks about coming home from work and telling them to let me alone while I just undwind for a few minutes. To think now how excited and happy they were to see me just breaks my heart knowing that I didn't respond at the right time. We all have to live today as if it were our last. Just think of all of the love we have to use, or it just goes to waste. Just hug and love your Grandmother and tell her how wonderful she is and what great memories you have of her. Make her happy now, and when she goes you will be so glad you did. My moms birthday is coming up ( She's been gone 10 years already) and I am a little sentimental right now, so excuse me if I sound like I'm preaching. I really don't want to come off that way. Love to all, and make someone smile today. Donna H.

Saw Grandma today. Doc said she has 3 compression fractures and urged her, along with myself, to get surgery done where they cement the fractures. I can't remember the name of it, but it's a non invasive surgery and there is a good chance she'll feel much better in a shorter amount of time instead of letting it heal on its own. In case I forgot to mention it, this is all due to osteoperosis. Anyways, I told her that she's going to come and stay with us for recovery. She kept saying she has money in her savings, but I just can't see her spend her money for assisted living while she has me. Anyway, Medicare doesn't cover for a nursing home and her deductable for her supplementary insurance is $900. Since she's going to have the surgery tomorrow, that means her recovery won't take a long time and it shouldn't be TOO hard on her living out by us for a week or so. So, I might not be online as much this coming week, which I'm sure will be a relief for some. We're going to have her in Eli's room, and either Eli will sleep on a cot or in bed with my husband and I'll take the sofa. I'm just glad that medical technology has come as far as it has, or else Grandma would have to suffer again for 3 months like she did last time she fractured. Thanks to all!!

So sorry Mel. Hope things work out better than you think. My thoughts are with you. I feel for you about losing a connection with that end of the family. Soon, I'm it here but at my age, that isn't the same. Rant away, Mel. Charlie
