They have no concept of logic anymore.  City of Pittsburgh lost a lawsuit to a criminal who injured himself running the police road block.

I think that I get it now:  an employer who knowingly employes illegal immigrant workers shouldn't be liable for injuries that they sustain while on the job...the worker should just be kicked out of the country, the employer not be punished and should be allowed to get another illegal immigrant worker to take his place; isn't this similar to slavery, you know, the issue that the Civil War was about?  Just asking. Gee, shooting people again to teach others a lesson-you're not the first one on this board to come up with that idea.  Forget about the constitution, Bill of Rights, etc., right?  Have you ever killed anyone?  I did, several, almost 30 years ago in the service of my country and I am still paying for it with PTSD.  I really don't think that you would want to do that, particularly if it came down to you pulling the trigger.  We need the foreign workers as much as they need us...some better system, like temporary work permits during harvest time could be worked out and even illegals are protected by our constitution.

Illegal aliens are illegal.  Period.  How the heck do they deserve workers comp rights, or food stamps, or anything!

I started a website just so people like you could address a thread/letter to a specific person with a specific gripe.  Why don't you start a letter there and we can all add to the thread that is sent to whom you want it sent?

I hate this crap.  I want to tell the officials how I feel and that I'm sick and tired of being brainwashed into accepting what they are imposing on us.

The dirty politicians are taking control little by little until we won't have any say so left anymore.  They passed a new gun bill here in Florida that allows more leniency in carrying a concealed weapon and using it whenever one feels threatened.  You don't have to drag them into your house anymore....just go out in the yard and shoot.  I favor the right to own a gun, but Mr. Road Rage might just decide I looked at him a little funny.

I admit I'm not very knowlegable about politics like Charlie and some of you other guys, but I sure as heck can see what is happening to our world.  Look at our Gulf......dead zones, 90% of our sea life extinct, commercial fishermen ripping up coral reefs, etc., etc.  Now they're pushing for oil drilling in the ocean.....just how much oil can they get?  Enough to justify the damage they'll do?

I'll shut up now.

Quote:
Can someone tell me WTF is wrong with this article?

 I'll try:
There is another way to look at this whole problem, and many might not like it, but something to think about. I lived in California much of my life and seen first hand what's going on. This kind of thing happens in most states as well, and the wrong people are being blamed. Ever been out of work and gone to a temp service willing to take any job? I have and they don't offer jobs picking oranges or avocados, etc. The Farmers Bros. or like employers are not going to pay a reasonable/fair price to put us Americans to work. So, they hire illegals and care less about their safety or health or any other thing that might cost them extra to hire any natives. Now, if they were forced to hire only legal citizens, they'd also be forced to raise wages, provide benefits and naturally follow in raising prices of produce and other products. This then would be passed on to the public to try to cover costs ... who would pay then? ... still us. Do we stop all immigrants from all countries that come to the States to work? How often do Americans travel to other countries and work to cover their trips? Or as I've seen, how many Americans work part time in the U.S., then take their money and go to impoverished countries and live like kings? Anyone working hard at menial jobs to care for themselves and families should be treated with respect and dignity. I've seen the trucks pull up on street corners or even at the temp services, the natives looking for work pass on the offers and the reason is obvious: too hard of work for too little pay. God forbid one native should get injured; they'd have to go to the courts as well to try to get any compensation. Or, you then have most Americans travel to different countries and most are hagglers to get the same products we could get here for a quarter of the price. One might say we have NAFTA, but that's really nothing more than American abuse of poverty to line greedy American companies pockets.
Any man/woman that worked for me and was hurt due to conditions, why would I not take care of them no matter where they come from?
I can't imagine shooting a person for wanting to work. I've offered several unemployed people with their "Will work for food" signs ... paying jobs ... never once did they really want to work.
If any of our CH'er friends from other countries wanted to come over here and work so they could stay a while, if you had the work, would you turn them down? It'd still be illegal to put them to work, but who wouldn't help them, and who wouldn't do everything possible to help them should they get injured?
So, if we really want to stop this, don't go after the workers, go after the bureaucrats of corporate America, make them enforce the laws on everyone and then be willing to pay the real greedy prices they would turn around and pass on to U.S. consumers.
Hope I don't get flamed for these thoughts, just looking at it in the realities of what is nothing more than my humble opinion.
Dave

Since you are asking...  The war between the States had nothing to do with slavery itself - more on a political level as to new States being slave or non-slave States - but that was just a small issue. The emancipation proclamation came two years into the war when the north was loosing every battle...

Illegals collecting money from a system neither their employer or they contribute to?  Farmer Bros. and companies like them benefiting from low cost labor  and paying NOTHING for the benefits Illegal workers collect? No payroll/income taxes, no workers comp., etc., etc., etc.?

Farmer Bros. and companies like them aren't being held liable - we are.  The only benefactors in this nonsense are Farmer Bros. and companies like them because they dump financail liability associated with their cheap labor entirely on the American people while collecting tax dollar funded farm subsidies.

The term Illegal worker means they're not supposed to be here, are committing a crime by being here, and for  all legal intents and purposes aren't here.  Farmer Bros. should foot the entire bill if they utilize Illegl labor and should be prosecuted for hiring Illegal workers as required by law.

If anyone believes this so-called low cost labor reduces U.S. food prices or helps U.S. farmers - think again.  Foreign imports and our government's manipulation controls prices on the commodities market.

Our tax dollars subsidize large land owners for not growing crops in the U.S.

Our government subsidizes conglomerate/corporate farms by guaranteeing them a price not set by the commodities market, buying/warehousing and wasting huge amounts of farm products with our tax dollars to manipulate supply/prices

Excessive land/inheritance taxes are breaking up even large local farms and putting them out of business

Smaller U.S. farms can't compete with conglomerate/corporate farms that utilize so-called low cost labor and not surprisingly these huge farms collect nearly all of the tax funded farm subsidies

Small to medium U.S. farms can't compete with foreign imports on the commodities market since most importing countries use slave labor and no longer pay duties, tariffs or taxes on their imports to the U.S. Remember we're neck deep in "Free Trade" - not "Fair Trade" agreements and never forget that Duties, Tariffs and Taxes on imports and exports are the only sources of income The Founding Father's allowed the Federal Government - we are making up for these tax revenues that the Feds. are so freely giving up.

We're trading traditional U.S. farming for huge farm  conglomerate, corporate, Illegal worker and importing nation's - welfare.  It's not a free market when our own government manipulates it behind the scenes and uses our tax dollars to fund the big players to control supply and prices.  What you think we're saving for food on the front end we are bled to death for on the back end while taxing traditional farmers out of existance and artifically setting the prices they can charge.

Shoot Illegal workers - ridiculous.  Deport them and prosecute hiring companies - absolutely.  Let these companies bring them into the country as registered temporary or migrant works who contribute to system if they want to collect benefits.  Place liability for Illegal  worker safety solely on companies that use them.

Withdraw from "Free Trade" agreements and replace them with "Fair Trade" agreements. Stop all  conglomerate/corporate, Illegal worker, Importing Nation's welfare programs, and reduce our taxes or the growing deficit.

Slowly/carefully get our goverment out of the role of manipulating the farming industry and let it return to a free market.

We don't need Illegal workers/cheap labor we need a free market within the U.S.  If foreign laborers who are disadvantaged in their own countries want to work in the U.S. let them do so legally and contribute to the system like everyone else.  Otherwise we don't need them here.

Question - Do employers who hire illegal immigrants to work for him pay the worker below the minimum wage?  If so, then the employer should be HEAVILY fined for each illegal worker on a per day basis.  Hit him in the pocket, and deport the illegal immigrant immediately, no court proceedings, no plea bargaining, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

Our paper recently had a big article about area tobacco farmers who hire immigrants from Mexico to come in to work the fields during growing season, pick the leaves, and get them ready for processing.  They come in to the country legally, through a government program, which allows them to work in this country for several months during the season.  They are paid, I believe, close to minimum wage, but receive no benefits such as health insurance, pension, etc.  They are housed on the farm in a quanset hut type building, given a cot, pillow and blanket.  They must provide their own food and personal needs which they purchase out of their pay, and they send the balance of their money home to their families.  The article said that these men earn 80% of their entire annual income in a period of 5 to 6 months by doing this hard manual labor.  The article also said that the farmers are forced to do this because nobody in this country is willing to work that hard for so little pay.  Like Dave said, our "citizens" standing on the street corners carrying signs don't want the job.  They just want the money.

If this system works for the farmers (not just tobacco farmers), why can't it work for any other job.  Why can't the immigrants who really want and need to work here, get work permits or visas, whatever, legally that allows them to work here for a certain period of time?  Why is it so difficult for them to get the proper papers?

I have absolutely no problem with anyone who really wants to work for the money.  I have serious problems with those who want the money without the work. Here's a new idea - deport them!  We have a busy intersection near us where every weekend, both days, all corners are manned by people carrying signs "homeless - need job" "need food".  It's really funny because it's the same people on the corners every weekend, and they are BUSSED IN in the morning, and picked up in the afternoon.  By whom, you ask?  Their "employers" who have hired them to beg on the corners, giving them a percentage of their "take".
Disgusting!

Where did I say to torture anybody?  Don't put words in my mouth.  And shut up?  That was my idea buddy, not yours.  You're a rude person.

What about the people who came here ,and studied while they worked, to become American citizens?

Show me an alien who gets more than, or even as much, as minimum wage and I'll show you an exception to the rule.

Our average joe here in Florida makes between $8.00 and 10.00 per hour.  Our rents start at a minimum of $750.00 for a run down one bedroom with about 700 sq. ft. of living space..  A 2 bedroom is over $1,000.00.  It doesn't equate.  Mom and Dad both working and still can't make ends meet.  We may have a low unemployment rate but why don't they say how much they are making or how many homeless people we have?  We have people sleeping in the woods and getting their water from the closest shopping mall.

What does this have to do with aliens?  Merely that if they became citizens, we'd all be better off.  They'd have to be paid at least minimum wage and wouldn't be taking the jobs from the little guy (in this right-to-work-state) eating noodels for dinner every night while paying their taxes which buy the food stamps for the person who is keeping his pay check down to unlivable.

Finially the TROLL sd something I almost fully agree with. I Agree with the work permit notion and I agree with LEGAL imigration. Illigals On the other hand should be deported on sight and not be given any rights of a United States Citizen! The system for Imigration needs to be revamped, and to answer the Question before someone asks how if I knew how I would be doing it for alot more money than I make right now. It does need it though and we all pretty much agree there is nothing wrong with LEGAL immigration at all.
My rant done now.

This was in the paper yesterday.  Authored by GOP Rep. J.D. Hayworth of Arizona, a slow moving attempt trying to do something, but it looks difficult.
