911 dispatchers on the job

This morning while I was on my way to work, I found myself behind who I consider to be the drunkest and most dangerous driver I have seen on the roads. I would have jumped out at a traffic light and took his keys if I didn’t have my 4 year old daughter in my car with me.

A few minutes later after I got to my babysitter’s house, I called Lake County 911 to report him since I had a description of his truck and his license number.

The reply I got from the dispatcher left me speechless. His words….. ‘There’s nothing I can do about it.’  He didn’t ask for a description or a license plate number. He just said that it happened to long ago. (5 minutes on a busy road isn't that long)

I was so upset, I wound up just hanging up on him. I can’t believe that 911 would treat this kind of situation like that.

I’m sure that the driver of this truck WILL have an accident this morning and it will happen in Lake County Indiana.

Lake County needs to take down all of the signs informing people to report drunk drivers if they are not willing to do something about them.

Sorry.... I was so pi$$ed about this, I had to rant.

I don't put my daughter in danger like that. I would have had to leave her in the car at a traffic light at one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections in Lake County Indiana.

I know that frustration, Pat.
A couple of years ago there was this teen that would wander around the neighborhood near my kid's school. He would dress like Eminem and always had his head down and a scowl on his face.
One morning, after I dropped the kids off, I saw him marching up the middle of the road holding a rifle. He had his head up, and was smiling and waving to passing cars. He was heading right toward the school. I called 911 and explained my concern, especially about the change in his demeanor. (People who decide to kill themselves often show a sign of giddiness before doing so, since they've finally made the decision) I was told that it was not against the law to carry a gun in NM, and there was nothing they could do. I asked that they send a car just to check on his well-being and the safety of the kids at the school. They refused.  Angry
I went back to the school and the security guy and I were lookouts. He never showed up and I never saw him again. I often wonder what happened to that kid, and I have no faith in our local sheriff's dept.  Undecided
