Nope. Only for about 3 nights then when the tapering down starts it's right back to hammer time. Jim

Yes, It kicked my last bout with the beast. But I did start it immediately after the first one. Shadows for a couple of days, and then gone. 80-80-80-60-60-60-50-50-50-40-40-40 etc. Seeya, Jimmers

Think I'll refrain on commenting on Pred ... but I have to ask Cat ... are you really considering taking it? Dave

No I'm not considering it, there is no way I can take pred again with the current problems going on, it was for another sufferer who was given a script for 40mg a day for 2 weeks, no taper, and told it would break his cycle. I knew there were some folks who had it break a cycle, but they were few and far between, and they ALL were put on a taper, not just a straight dose then stopping it. Pred is traditionally a transition drug, it's usually used in a 10 day taper to allow a preventative time to kick in. Just wanted to see if anyone out there had any luck with it actually breaking a cycle. Cat

| Not surprising, Dave. Whenever I see mention of pred, I instantly think of you. In answer to your question, Cat, as I told you on the phone, the other day, I have tried it several times, and never has done squat ... Chuck

No, definite that a preventative needs to be started if used, for me. The awareness gained from this board has convinced me to simply ramp up faster on the verap instead and stay well prepared for the temporary barrage. Just my decision.

I tried the Pred taper when I went chronic and had adverse effects from it and was unable to continue the taper. No help whatsoever. Peace, Carl D

Tried a three week taper last winter - gave me exactly 1.5 days relief. Doc. talked me into giving it anothther try last week. Just started the three week taper this morning. I'll let you know if it works this time. 80X4days - 60X4days - 40X4days - 20X4days - 10X4days That is..... If the food holds out that long. Tom

I used to get a few days relief from it, and at the time, I thought that was worth it. It never touched the constant migraine, but I did get a few days without CH. There are times when I get hit more than usual when I wish I could take it just for those few days... But all things considered..... I hate it because of getting avascular necrosis.

I had had 2 rounds of pred spring of 04 just after DX. First was 10 days of straight dose no taper...helped the ch but was also on Indo (which created a whole different HA problem and inability to stop feeling dizzy and couldn't walk straight or sit straight or stand straight) two weeks later was put on a taper once Doc DX's and read up some on this hell, and sd try this once again before refering me to the HA specialist. That helped for only a few days that time. Hope this helps somehow for the guy.

Missed this one Cat. A month ago when the Kudzu stopped working and my CH got out of control (compared to what it was). When I went to the Neuro, he gave me a Medrol Dosepak 6 day course with 4 mg tabs 6 the first day and decreasing from there. Tha along with Amerge twice a day, plus O2 for breakthrough hits did t for me enought to be able to slowly go back to kudzu (It is starting to work again). Didn't think the corticosteroid route would work (it literally put the brakes on my CH), but it did. Ozzy

Ozzy, That's an excellent example of how it should be used and work. I'm really glad it helped and the Kudzu has started working again! Carrie

It's broke a few of my cycles. The other times it just gives me a few days rest. I was on the Pred taper. It's very patchy, sometimes it'll break it and other times just a few days reprieve.
