Listening to the new Franz Ferdinand disc again now. That was such a fun show, they have such an 80's british feel... takes me back a bit.

Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
Manowar - Sing Of The Hammer (One of the best kept secrets of metal albums - The bass solo on here is amazing)
Depeche Mode - Violator
Queen - News of The World
Bob Dylan & The Band - The Basement Tapes
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Heart - Magazine
Radiohead - Hail To The Thief
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Sammy Hagar - Standing Hampton
Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful (This is such a soothing album, ala Keane/ Radiohead/ Beatles/ Coldplay)
R.E.M. - Reckoning
David Bowie - Scary Monsters
That 70's Music (a compilation I made a long time ago with Bay City Rollers, Kiss, Shaun Cassidy, Bee Gees, Paper Lace.... listening to this disc is yet ANOTHER sign of suffering from sleep deprivation)  laugh

Walking would be so lonely without headphones.

What'choo all listening to this week?

Nickelback is a good band, but I have an all new appreciation for them in a big way. Their new album has a song called "Side of A Bullet" that was written about the senseless onstage murder of Pantera/ Damageplan guitarist Dimebad Darrell and 3 others. I get chills from the line "I sat home and carved your name into the side of a bullet."

The most phenomenal part of this Nickelback song is the post-humous guitar solo from Dimebag. Chad Kroeger of NB had contacted Vinnie Paul (dime's brother and the drummer of Pantera/ Damageplan who was also targeted the same night) and asked Vinnie if he would play drums on the track. Vinnie responded "That drum track on there already kicks ass. It doesn't need redone."
Vinnie contacted Dime's widow and had told her about the song. She then contacted Chad Kroeger and sent him some discs of Dimebag just screwing around soloing out by himself. Chad sat and listened, pulling out and clipping together pieces, and created the guitar solo for the song "Side of A Bullet."

My neice played the song for me the other night and I about wet myself. I yelled "It sounds like Dime sat down and wrote the solo for this song. It fits too perfect!" I got mega mega mega chills.

Two more tributes to Dimebag include the new Disturbed album which is titled "Ten Thousand Fists" from a Dimebag quote about the feeling he got onstage. Dave Dramain of Disturbed went through alot of torment after Dimes assassination and took it all out on this album.

Also, the new Black Label Society song "Bury Me In The River" is Zakk Wyldes tribute to Dime. Zakk is one of the most riveting guitarists I've ever seen in my life, and the video for this song he is playing PIANO sitting in the river, and then smashes it with a sledge hammer. The end of the video as two kids play in the river one drowns, and you see Dimebag's face reflecting on the waters. I cried like a baby when I saw that video.

Diamond "Dimebag" Abbott was a phenomenal guitarist. Saw Pantera twice and both times my fist was among the 10'000 slamming the air. I have a copy of 2 Pantera indie CD's before they got signed, and before Phil Anselmo was singing. They were a bit more glam than hardcore back in '84 and the discs "Projects In The Jungle" and "I Am The Night" and the guitar solo "Red Light Green Light" makes Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" sound like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. If anyone wants a copy of it, PM me with your email and I'll rip an MP3 and send to you. Definitely a must have for any Dimebag fan.

Yeah, I LOVE Nickelback!

Right now, I still can't stop listening to Kate Bush's "King of the Mountain". My own personal diva finally comes back after a 12 year absence with a killer song that grows on you with each listen.

The video has even been posted on the net. Very sweet and humorous take on all of the "Elvis is alive" tabloid hoopla. Here's a link to the medium resolution video. Damn, Kate is still gorgeous even at age 47 and with a few more pounds than I'm accustomed to seeing on her!

Kinda cheesy video, but I really love it. And the song is better than I could have imagined!

Roll on, November 8th, when Kate's double CD "Aerial" is finally released!

Great song Joe. My fave Kate Bush disc has to be "The Kick Inside" - an old bass player of mine turned me onto that album and Midnight Oil - Red Sails In The Sunset...
If one tape wasn't in my car stereo, the other one was for like a month straight.

Rock on,

I'm listening to the Boss.  Saturday night I had the great privelege of seeing him do a live, one-man concert in a 6000 seat venue.  He was absolutely awesome--voice better than ever and really creative with his use of electronics.

That's just too bizarre to see Toad the Wet Sprocket, I could have sworn Clark was the only one I knew who knew who they were.

Time to get the Manic Street Preachers CD out and listen to If you Tolerate This again Smiley

Anybody ever hear of Kelly Richey Band.....it's a woman that sings and slams the guitar playin the BLUES !! We got invited to go see her end of the month at Fat Fish Blues in Cleveland Ohio. But somea them clubs and bars mite look good from the advertsisments and tv segments but when ya get there it is a different story ! Brad is not a big Cleveland fan as far as 'late nite' cuz it's a good place to get mugged or whatever ! Really wanna go but not sure if he will do it. Last time we went to see John Mayall about 4 or 5 years ago to Wilber's in Cleveland. Sounded like a nice cozy place and is just down for the Rock Hall of Fame. Cost sum bucks to get in too. Dam tho.......place was off the main drag and very small and limited parking. Town is rather dead AFTER HOURS cept for party goers and UNDESIREABLES. There was a parking garage near by but it was dark as all hell and closed....not sure we'd of went in there anyhow. Pitch dark !!! Had to park along the street and it was in January. Got inside after walking a bit and got in and found out we were not even ALLOWED in the same room with the band cuz we did not buy advance BIGGER bucks tickets. Had to try to eat standing up getting bumped every second by people...all strangers and people up north aren't as freindly as we are in this area. We did manage to sneak into the band area. Small room and small bar. Had to stand elbow to elbow and leave the other person alone to go grab a drink. Lots of wierdo's !!!! When we left the streets were dark and Brad's Jetta car's (aka go-cart) doors were all FROZEN shut !! Shit shit shit !!! A carload of PUNKS drove by real slow and seen us struggling and we were the ONLY ONES OUT THERE at that end of town where we had to walk. (guess everyone else was smart enuff to leave a tad bit early and be safer). That car cruized by slow all looking at us then pulled into business alley road and slowly backed out to come back !!!!!! We were POSTIVE they were goin to rob us......you know that FEELING you get !!!! And these guys didn't look good when they went by the first time slow and slowing down as they stared. Brad got his door open and I panic'd on my side screaming for him to get my door OPEN and we was beating on it and I was YANKING on it. Sorry no time to try other techniques like find some WD-40 in the trunk or let the car run and warm up a while.....I fineally RAN over to his side and told him to move the fuck over yelling and leaped in on and over him !! The punk car was gettin REAL close goin about 5 mph and almost to us !!! (probly some spics or gang creeps and NO COPS around what so ever). Well KA-RIST.....the dam car won't start !!!!! Oh shit......were in deep trouble cuz the car is almost there. Real big old impala car with dark windows. Brad got it started and we took off like a bat out of a freezeing hell.......then it started sputting and we thought it mite die but wanted to at least get closer into the town area with LIGHTS !! Never took a beater to a big town again. Car wasn't a beater exactly and looked nice but was rough and ran rough in cold weather. So that's my big city story and we haven't done much big city stuff since. I should write a book. Punked and out Pam

Love to go see this band tho.....check out the link......
