Steve, I enjoyed meeting you in Dallas and really loved your *laid back* attitude. I've only been a member here for a short while and I'm sorry, but I have to agree with you. I've been a member/moderator/admin of boards for many years now and some of what goes on here takes the cake. I don't understand why it goes on. 'darlin

I love this website. If it wasn't for this website and the caring people here, I would have a much more miserable life. I don't know what I would do if this website was ever shut down. I guess I just don't see all of the in-fighting and such, but even if I did, there are still TONS of caring people here who would give you the shirt off of their back if they could. -Kim

It is hurtful and sometimes very childish, but when you take a look at how many personalities dwell here, it's a wonder it isn't a lot worse. I think we try pretty hard to bite out tongues sometimes. I've gotten pretty angry and swore I'd never come back, but there's more here than just what appears on the surface. It's a special place and a very needed place.

Very well said, Donna. There have always been threads here that ruffle some feathers. I came here in the first year of ch.com and it was happening then too. Some will remember Waterdog. And LindaB. and..and..and. Nothing's changed. This is a website for people in pain and with that pain, comes stress and close-to-the-surface feelings. Poo poo's gonna happen. But at the end of the day, if someone shows up here needing cluster support, they get it - unconditionally.

KOP, I know you and I have never met, because I've only met one CH in my life, and I don't think you and I have ever had any sort of interaction on these boards. As I have said in other recent posts regarding the subject of shutting down this site, I was here, joined up, in 1999. I didn't last long. I learned very quickly, that because I had not been "officially" diagnosed with CH, (you see, in 1999, my husband was unemployed and we had no health coverage, we had two daughters in college so getting "officially diagnosed" was out of the question). I was not accepted into the "club" of CH sufferers. If I voiced any opinion on any topic, I was ridiculed and personally attacked, by the "club members" (one person in particular). I was actually accused of fabricating CH as the "fad of the week" ailment. Oh, yes, there were a couple of people who actually tried to help me, to give me suggestions on what I could do to minimize my CH problems, but those people were few and far between. I left the old board shortly after I joined. I was not made welcome. I was made fun of, and outside of one or two people, I was either ignored or riduculed. Why stay? For the next few years, I battled my CH on my own - and by the way, was finally "officially diagnosed". This year, 2005, I decided to lurk on the board to see if anything had changed - and it HAD. I found real people here, people who suffer the same thing that I do and who do not judge, who do not ridicule, who do not make fun of (other than the obvious trolls) anyone. I re-joined, and found a whole new family. This is a CH support board. In addition to sharing information about CH, medications, new medical information, we support each other. To be supportive, the conversations must go beyond just CH. Coversations must cover laughter, sadness, problems in our personal lives, our children, our spouses, our work, and our anger - not only at our CH, but at anything else in the world that is affecting our lives, as well as allowing each of us to be ourselves, including posting "questionable" jokes and pictures. We support each other in all things, good things and bad things. I'm sorry that you feel this board (this is my assumption) should be relegated to CH and only CH, when there is so much else in all our lives that demand our attention, and require others to help us get through the hard times. Give all of us a chance. Open your mind to anything, and everything that you read on these boards. Yes, many things are not quite "tasteful", many are downright obscene, some people are obnoxious, some are always sweet at sugar, but we are all suffering from the same thing, and we are all a family of sufferers. As a family, we accept each other for what we are. If you really read everything, you will learn just how much we all mean to each other. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you my telephone number so that I can tell you personally just how much the people on these boards mean to me. They have saved my life and my sanity. I can overlook their "quirkiness" because they were there for me when I needed them. Sandy

KOP, I think everybody who has been, or will be part of this family all share a common problem. It's a problem that goes far deeper than what most humans have to deal with, and because of that we all cycle through extreme emotions and sensativities. Everyone here has been ready (at some point) to: - beg for help - lash out at people who try to help - praise the awesome family that is clusterville - donate time/money/resources to clusterheads and events - pack up their toys and go home to wallow in pity - fill in the blank The problem is we cannot all be in sync, and irrational behavior is really a regular occurance with people under our kind of stress. *Everybody* here is going to experience good AND bad here. You have to ignore the bull sheet and learn to benefit from the good stuff. I've kept my mouth shut for the most part, but your post made me want to respond because I don't think it's any worse that it has always been... just maybe you are in a place where you're less tolerant of the bad stuff and less aware of all the good stuff. It's still the same place, but the people, including you, are cycling through different modes. Just chill out and ignore the crap, look for opportunities to help if your able, and it will all work out. -Shawn

I try and warn the folks that this could happen when these threads get out of control with the BS, I cant speak for DJ, but dont be surprised one day that you click and it says "This site is down untill...." WE can ignore and click to the next post, but, how long will DJ do that before another black weekend? BTW, your post was excelent, Fubar

I know 'chill out' sounds trite and is probably unrealistic for some people, but it's the only rational thing to do IF you can do it. Fact is, we will always have irrational people here and sometimes it's the person in the mirror. By being concious of this fact before, during, and after posting... you can avoid falling into those emotional traps that only make your problems seem worse than they are. I've fallen for the political rants and some other BS threads in the past... now I hardly read any threads unless they catch my attention. It's just my way of avoiding the mayhem that disheartens me. And I feel better for it too. Thanks for the comment Jonny, Sean.

Fubar, I think you're absolutely right. Keep in mind we're not a normal bunch regardless of our backgrounds, political views, etc... how can we be with what we have to deal with on a regular basis? I don't participate in these threads but get saddened when they turn to shit. I post humorous threads every once a while to try to lift the spirits and make people laugh for a minute. Laughter's good medicine. Cheers, Rex
