Follow-up to Speak the Language

The newspaper said the driver was an 18 yo resident of a city west of us. His car was legally tagged and no mention of his being illegal. So, he obvously didn't attend school in the US and must be a fairly recent immigrant as Kansas has a statute that you must remain in school until graduation or age 18. Anyway he was injured badly enough to be lifewatched to Wichita to a trauma center. Next thought...did he have insurance??

Well, the first words out of the mouths of anyone at any hospital these days are "let me see your insurance card". Not, how are you feeling, or how can I help you, or even gee, I'm sorry you got hurt. Just show me the money! Even if he is conscious, he doesn't know the language. How's he supposed to answer? Aren't hospitals grand these days? Sandy
