Drama/Violence in the Office!

This lady at work that sits in the office next to me just got punched in the face!   Shocked

I have to admit this lady has an awful attitude problem and mistreats her co-workers for no reason and I’m surprised she’s still here.  Anyway, I guess one of the guys in her group got fed up, and punched her in her face and I think he broke her nose.

All I heard was her say something rude and then I heard some screams. I run out of my office only to find people in the lady's office already trying to get the guy off of her.   He looked like a madman!  This lady is 5 feet tall and the guy is 6’6” - I mean regardless he should have never hit her like that.  It seems the guy just snapped.  After they got him off of her, they rushed her to the bathroom…she was bleeding from her nose.  I’m sure he broke it.   Embarassed

I think they called the cops for him, and an ambulance for her.   Undecided

WTF?  If I’m not walking in on people having sex in the office, I’m dealing with drama and violence in the office…jeesh!

I know they're going to fire the guy for sure.

I'm fairly certain that they have no choice but to fire him, AND he deserves it!  Regardless of how much of a bitch, and PITA she is, he stepped WAY over the line.

Now, how can we get the bitch fired, too?

Langa - you're going to have to start taking a hard hat to work with you.  Good Lord - what an awful atmosphere to work in.

I agree with Chuck - they have no choice but to fire him - but I think she has to go too!

The guy always did seem kinda strange to me...like a walking time-bomb even though he seemed really nice... Huh

The cops just cuffed him and took him away and she was taken to the hospital...

I guess they both learned a lesson today...

Sigh...

There is a lesson in this for everyone. You never know how someone might react to a real or perceived insult or mistreatment. Even if they aren't nuts, everyone has a breaking point.

I know what you mean, I would never strike a woman for any reason.. but everyone has a breaking point...

I have a Processor Manager, that I swear a Toilet Bowl is cleaner than his mouth and the guy hates everyone so such, I do not think he even likes helself... I mean this guy is Mean and a Raceist... Says really mean things all the time.... I keep telling the Boss/Owner that one day he is going to get SUED over this guy, but I just get Laughed at.... I am just the Quality Manager, so I can not fire him, but I am waiting on the same thing to happen here... Some guy or one of the Girls that work there or their Boyfriend/Husband to come in there looking for him....

I am always watching when the people come and go...

But it Sucks to have to Deal with people like that, I am hoping once we get our plant moved at the end of this month, he will quit, It will be a 1 1/2 hr ride for him to and from work each way....

They should just fire them both and get rid of the problem...

Good Luck Langa....

Well I'd just like to say I don't agree with playing the "female card". I take full responsibility for my actions and if I push you to wanting to smack me in the mouth then go for it! You play with fire you're gonna get burned.
Whilst I appreciate nice manners and having doors held for me etc I want equality too and that means not hiding behind a skirt. If its something you wouldn't let a man get away with then you shouldn't let a woman get away with it either.
Whether you should be knocking seven bells out of either sex is another issue!

And some of them do on a regular basis.  Violence is not an answer to anything.  Sometimes it is, however the only option we are given.

I'm with Helen. I know how to avoid that kind of conflict. If I behave in a way that makes someone want to take a swing at me, then I'm prepared for that to happen. Of course, then whoever it is that swings...better run like hell.  Wink

I knew there would be reprocussions to my statement. Just to make it clear. I DO NOT agree that ANYONE should be violent towards ANYONE. Wether it me guy-girl or, girl-guy. It just seems that it's always a guy hitting a girl everyone gits in an uproar. I fully understnad what you're saying Pegg. It's a shame that there are people like that out there.

Added to clarify.... If the girl would have broke that guys nose, half the people here would be getting a laugh about it making smartass comments if you get my drift.

From the time my son was just a little guy he was raised to believe that you should never hit a female.  Frankly, I threatened to tan his ass if he ever did.

Apparently our teachings hold true to this day.  He's now 40 and manages a chain of sports bars.

The other night he was helping to "escort" a patron out of the bar when the patron's female companion laid a thumping on him.

He told us later he was standing there screaming at her "I promised my parents I'd never hit a woman but if you hit me one more time, I'm going to break a 40 year old promise".  She apparently did quite a number on his face before she was finished.  To his credit, he did remember his teachings.  She also returned the next day to apologize to him and to thank him for not calling the police and having her charged.

I agree though with Helen - nowadays with equality being the cry - we can't hide behind skirts, or play the female card any longer.  No one should hit another person - there has to be a better way to settle it.

Well, just got home.  They called all the Managers to a meeting after working hours to discuss the "assault".  They feel it's a sticky situation to fire the woman, since she was the one assaulted.  The concensus is that regardless of what she said or how he felt she provoked him, he should have never laid a hand on her.  He's definitely fired and when she gets back she's got one warning.  Someone complains about her and she's gone too.

I posed the questions:  1.  Were there ever any prior complaints from other employees with regard to her attitude and 2.  If so, was she ever given verbal or written warnings?  The Manager had a hard time answering that in fact the answer is yes to both - 8 complaints!!!  That's just ridiculous!  She has 2 verbal warnings in her file and 2 written, the rule is 3 written, violate the 3rd written and you're fired, so that's the protocol we'll follow.  Frankly, I feel this lady should've been let go a long time ago.

We also got word from the hospital - broken nose AND jaw, AND sprained wrist among some of her injuries.

We still don't know what she told the guy that made him snap...and I guess it really doesn't matter.  A woman is seriously hurt and a guy is in jail tonite over something that could've been avoided.
