One of the clusterheads I met here is a Free Mason. We got talking about it, and I told him I am too. So, he invited me to tour the Oslo lodge, which is what we call the Grand Lodge. This is the Grand Lodge of all of Norway.
The building was built in the 1800's, and is awe inspiring! What beauty. What detail. VERY impressive structure!
This is one of the lodge rooms. This one is reserved for performing first and second degrees.
This is one of the ante rooms. Look at the work in those walls!
Can you beleive, this is the ceiling in ONE of the banquet rooms. Marvelous!
How is this for a parquet floor? I was told that during the nazi's occupation, the nazis road their horses right into this room with shoes and every thing

Is the masons a GOOD thing ? Thanks for the link don man. My one friend that join'd it seems to be a bit obsessed and spends alot of his time doing mason meetings and gatherings. A manly group with no drinking or anything like that........but they give money alot and donations all the time and for me I look at alot of things good or bad that go to extremes needing a group of followers to support the CLAN as a cult of sorts. His wife even said since he join'd he doesn't do much else and got into it pretty steady. He wants Brad to join but Brad is skeptical also.....and donated to death now days as it is. Do they wear matching outfits Pam

A Free Mason is not required to donate anything. There is a very small annual dues requirement. You can become heavily involved or simply be a card carrying member. Its up to the individual.
The Masons are a very good thing. We provide free hospital care (Shriners Burn Hospital for one), medical care, nursing homes, assisted livings, Child Identification Programs, durable medical equipment, the list goes on and on. We do not solicit funds. The funds come through endowments, philanthropic organizations, etc.
It is the oldest worldwide fraternal organization in the world. Pre dates Jesus. A brother Mason and his family can recieve help and hospitality anywhere in the world without question if they are in need. Masons take care of their own as well, providing Mason's funerals and widows funds for an example. Widows of our departed lodge members are never forgotten during Christmas and other holidays.
A brother Mason is encouraged and supported to build character, morals and standards to become a better man. (Shit! How did I get in?)

Are women not allowed? I know that there's a related organization for women. Eastern Star? But are the Mason's men only? After 2000 years, is it possible that "standards" should be adjusted to keep up with the times? Was there ever a time in their history when men of color weren't allowed, either?
I'm really curious. I don't know much about them. It always seemed to be some kind of secret society to me.

I don't know much about Free Masons, since all the masons around here charge a couple hundred bucks an hour.
That wood floor caught my eye, tho. Horses walked on the damned thing, and it still looks that good? Where can I get some of this stuff......

Masonic history is long and complex so I'm not a Masonic historian but you are probably right. The first all black lodge was formed and remains right here in Boston.

There are many myths and misconceptions about the Masons. There are secrets within the organization that are secret even to fellow Masons. These secrets are disclosed to you as you raise through the differant levels of Free Masonry. Free Masons descibe it as being elevated.

There is also Job's daughters, that is for young girls who would like to be in the Eastern Star. My grand father was a mason, grand mother in the Eastern Star and both aunts, 1 uncle and several cousins also.

I have a Mason Lodge here in town but cant seem to find anyone round here that knows a damn thing bout it. I would love to get in to the Eastern Star. Maybe some of my grams good looks and luck will rub off on me.

My Dad was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
He died in 1994...but had been a Mason for 50 years. He was invited in 1944 by his best friend, at the time.
I know nothing about the Masonic Lodge...it's all secret stuff, ya know. About a month before my Dad died, he gave me his 14 degree Masonic ring. Simple but beautiful gold band with the equilateral triangle and the letter yod.
My prized possession...this ring is. Just adds to the already wonderful memories passed on to me thru the years by my Dad.
