Anyone have any good fun ideas on haveing one or places ? Sum friends want to plan one for a friend that got hurt in a motorcycle accident but I think they are biteing off more then they can chew here. First of all only about 5 of us are on the committee which means only 5 of us will do ALL the work. The group wants to find a big hall basically free which me and Brad think is kind of rediculous......they say they want it to hold over 250 people but we have no prooof 25 will make it even tho the guy is well liked. Times are tough......people are gettin benifit and donation shy and have problems of there own. The group is lookn into places to use too far away also.......we would be the ones in charge of driveing back and forth settin up. And they want to save money by doing a spaghetti dinner with salad and bread.....but WHO is goin to pay for it ?? (us) And I know we will end up payin realistically over 100 to 200 bucks for a hall with full kitchen ect the group is wanting to get. They didn't like our hotel idea and have people meet where there is a big sportsbar and resturant area or anything similar where we'd all jus meet and have door prizes and maybe kereokee or juke box. Someone has to do all the cooking and none of us even have the stuff to cook TONS of food in so suppose borrowing or renting is in order in mass. The friend isn't even in need at the moment and insurence covering stuff so far and wife still collecting unemployment lookin for a new job. She had knee surgery and could not return to her job just before the accident. Us friends are takein care of there lawn, building wheel chair ramps and building stuff for the bathroom for easy access to the shower and all for the guy and we give them a few bucks when we can. Any ideas on how to handle this one without pissin off the other freinds wanting to GO FOR IT ??? I think it is goin to be way too much work and we only have a choosen few that ever help with ANYTHING anyhow and all are gettin burnt out on it. Friends of freinds gone wild Pam

Tell those friends that want a big shin dig to cough up some cash or STFU! You and Brad are doing your share, let some of the others step up to the plate and put their money where their mouths are.

Yeah I agree........a benfiet sounds good and great to do for someone but when you start to think of HOW THE HELL a few people can cook, setup and buy it all it is uncomprehindable. I would need tied down I'd be such a basket case. I have a freind that does catering and owns a favorite pub we go to.....awesome cook......she has offer'd to do it ALL for a reduced rate 'just for us' and to help out. If they don't take the bait I am goin to boot there asses !! Best idea so far Pam Hey I had a dream last nite kind of like Alice in Wonderland only it was Pam in Clusterland......really bazaar.......and Jonny you really were the KING !!! I need to write a book......

Hi Pam, Sorry to hear about your biker friend's accident. Say "NO" to the big hall idea and the hotel idea. Tell them all this is what he would want, and is gonna get... Do the fundraiser/benefit at a campsite outdoors with a bonfire. In the wind, where he wants to be, on the evening and night of 10/xx/05. With several pounds of Tri-Tip steak on the grill and all the fixins' and lots of beer. Pot luck cookout and donations. That's the way he would want it. been there done that Bob.

If you just have to have a dinner, see if Wal- Mart or a place like that would donate the food, you could get most any church or Moose lodge to let you use their building!!! a idea, want to make some money for this family, here what you do. Find a place to have a pet contest. A parking lot of a place that is closed down, like a old K-Mart store some where like that. Even a Park. Get permission from the owner of the property. They would donate that. You would have to get a permit that doesn't cost that much. put one person in charge of that. You five be the judges. Put up posters and run a add in the news paper about the contest. Charge $10 entry fee. Have like the uglest pet, the cutiest pet, and so on. Call Wal-Mart ask them if they would donate items for prizes. Also ask them if they would donate Hambugars and hot dogs and buns. Maybe even some soft drinks. You can go to places like Buguar King, and they will donate napkins and cups. So far only cost to anyone is permit and add in paper. That could be split up five ways. Each paid back day of pet contest. Day of contest. Two couples run constation stand. Simple thing to do. Set up two grills. One for Hambugars, one for hot dogs. You need two tables one for the plates, cups mustard and stuff. One for taking the money and orders. You have one person taking orders and money, two cooking the other fixing the drinks. Charge a $1 a hotdog a $1 a hambugar and $1 a coke. You would be surprized how that adds up. Have the other three be the judges and if their husbands/wifes help have them do any running around like if you run out of food and so on. It doesn't have to be pets it can be a contest for children of some kind. We did this with our humane Society and we brought in a little over $5000 of course you have a donation jar up also. It turned out to be a lot of work and we went home tired. We made most of the money on the food. We wasn't expecting the turn out we had and had to go buy more food. We still made out good. Oh make sure at the strat of the day. You have $200 in change 1's 5' 10' because everyone will give you a 20 LOL Most everything can be done by phone except getting the permit and picking up the donations. I found that if I went in person to ask for donations I got it more so than on the phone. If you two are the ones dishing out the money than it may come down to upseting people. Maybe you could make a budget and all five share the cost.

Myself and two other guys planned, set up, and ran a picnic and wiffleball tourney for local families. 3 of us. Attendance estimates were from 800 to a 1000. Wont do that again!
