Not many here may remember my hubby and a friend trying to help a man by the name of Wardell Camper find his wife whom he was seperated from.  This was played on the news last night:

This man was in the  back of my vehicle, we had raised over $200 for this couple, I even found his wife and brought her to Omaha.

Appearances are deceiving...he didn't look like he does in his picture, and I thank God I didn't get in a vehicle or his room alone, my hubby was always with me or my friend.  This is scary shit.

I am so glad it turned out the way it did. It could have been much worse for you. I agree with the officer, I doubt this will be the only case of something like this.

Man Cat, I am glad you are okay. The situation could have turned out bad with someone like that. Just don't think of the 'what ifs' and instead know that you did the right thing byt trying to help someone.
Unfortunately people like this guy are beyond help. Just one of many sad tales I have heard. One man moved to Chatanooga to sart over. He got a fema card and the next day his body was found. He had been shot 6 tmes. I cried when I read that. It is bad enough that disasters like the hurricane devastate so many, but then the people who use such tragedies for their own gain - It is sickening and heartbreaking at the same time.

Glad you are safe,
Carl

Cat I'm soooo Glad everything went safe with you, & I'm sorry you went through that scare, sorry to say, but things like that happen when you try to help people, I'm glad that no one got hurt & that he is off the streets before he hurts someone else!!
We had a 53 yrs old man here, who was from gulfport MS. & we got him set up in our apartment just out back of our place & got him set up with FEMA, Red cross, clothing, food, tv., everything!! then he starts acting differant on us, & he's actions are of someone on drugs, well asked him about it many times!! pick him off the street twice, once with a know drugy, & the other with a wh-re, talked to him both times, then he disapaired from 7.30pm until 4am. well that morning, told him that he was going to the dr.s for a drug test, & that if it came back negative we would say are sorrys!! but if it came back possative, that he would have 4 choices, 1 go to a inhouse drug program, 2 go to a shelter, 3 go to a hotel for two week & find a place or 4. go back to ms. or what ever he wanted to do!! that I could not have him here with us & him doing that!! & that I could not put him in another host home with him doing drugs!! so he agreed to the drug test & went to bed, Charlie & I prayed about it & went to bed ourselfs, the next morning we got up & he had his bags packed & said he was sorry for lieing to us & for messing up!! we told him we could get him help if he stayed here yet it had to be a in house program!! he said no & we took him to the airport & he got a ticket back to gulfport MS. we did what we could, yet I'm not puting my family harms way to help someone, so he had to go!!  talked to his mom in MS. & told her what happen, I don't lie for anyone!!
he is getting help through red cross in MS. as far as I know!!
I will always try to help those in need, to a point!!
I still say to you cat GOOD JOB!! I beleive that the help that you did for this man, also got him off the streets!!!

Lots of Love & Prayers to you & yours!!

just like with Ben, I didn't know his back ground & he started doing drugs, hell he could of been a killer too for all I know!! & I still don't know his back ground!!
I'm just glad you all are safe & he is off the streets!!

There's details I can't reveal, but I do know from the news stories he had $1500 cash on him, who knows how many 'marks' he scammed.  I'm ashamed I was one of them, I feel betrayed and in some way violated.  I keep this post going because this group is the most giving and helping group I have ever encountered.  And I don't EVER want to read headlines that one of us ended up hurt or worse.  I'm not the only one on this board this happened to.  Sassy, Elaine, me, who else that we don't know about yet.

I thank whatever powers that be that I happened to be a safe one in this situation.  I still live with a certain amount of fear because his wife is here in Omaha....hell *I* brought her here Sad

I can only hope that good will come of this, be it through saving someone's life that he might have taken or scammed someone.

The article out of New Orleans said that Daniel Washington age 28 was setting off firecrackers in the street for new years.  James Camper (whom I knew as Wardell) proceded to walk in the street and put multiple bullets into his head.  The Sgt in New Orleans was quoted as saying he's a "cold blooded killer".

Needless to say, my anxiety level jumped 1000 fold.

Just please please please be very careful who you help and how you help.

This happen'd probly 15 years ago.......We learn'd a long time ago people are not always WHAT or WHO they seem and they are very good at it. It is a very scarey situation and it leaves you feeling so INSECURE. Brad helped an older couple that's bike broke down down the road from us on our back country roads. Next thing you know they are at our house....we had a party here with freinds that nite and bonfire and all and several camped out. They got to talking to alot of the people and started comeing around alot and we'd stop out to see them off and on. But once you got in......it was sorta like a trap. They kept tryin to talk us into selling drugs for them telling us we could make LOTS of money but we were smart enuff to tell them NO FREAKIN WAY. Well some of our freinds got involved with them doing it and within a few years THEY ALL GOT BUSTED. Next thing you know there were alot of drug busts around. (not that our friends were big druggies but they got them into dealing for them promiseing how much CASH they would bring in and they took the bait). Found out the guy was an undercover cop......he got busted also but only was gone a month or so. The bad thing is this guy was gettin into some HEAVY drugs and got our freinds into dealing the heavy stuff for them. They were young and stupid and fell for the money ideas. The guy was a big user and they would give people tons of drugs to do with them "then" get them all messed up and talk them into a deal !!!! Evertime we stopped over to there house to visit I seen COPS everywhere and got sort of STRANGE. These people were gramma grampa types tho!!!!!!! Freaked me out when I got the whole story. They seem'd like such nice sinsere people !!! Were a bit more choosey and cautious these days. But the guy always had a big gun on him too......so who knows.......maybe he had people after him and we could of got caught up into it !!!! It could happen to you Pam

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

Dr. Kent's advice is very sweet. In the real world, as real people, we only have so much to give, and can only afford to get kicked so many times before we are running on empty. Not all of us are cut out to be Mother Teresa or Mahatma Gandhi. And if you end up stabbed, choked, or shot, that's pretty much the final word on pragmatism, isn't it.  Undecided

Not necessarily, Den. "Trust in God, but tie your camel." Wink That's all I'm sayin. There are some evil m*therf*ckers in the world and it's wonderful to be kind, generous, loving, and openhearted. These things are the very height of nobility, but it also pays to exercise discernment and discretion.

Question, though: If the only tool I have is a screwdriver, can I solve all of my problems by screwin'?  Cool Grin

Den, thank you, I think that was probably about the best thing I could have read today.  I've been told by more than one friend and loved one that it's time I stop putting out that helping hand so much.

That man  may have destroyed the one thing I hold as the highest value: Life.  But I am sure he has suffered too, and EVERYONE deserves some kindness in their life at some time.

I can say this now because I'm medicated on xanax, he's behind bars and I've since had a far more serious issue to deal with LOL.

Amazing how your perspective can change in a heartbeat.

Truly Den, thank you, those words meant a great deal, they helped stop me from shutting down a giving spirit.

Hi Catlind...

I kinda went through the same thing for a few days after our ordel with Ben Reddix from MS, I felt kinda BURNT... I mean this Man had no needs, we spent 2 weeks getting him setup with everyone and everything... What does this guy do start doing drugs and running out all night long.... But we Prayed about it and God showed us the truth and Ben told us that God would not let him stay here anymore... So God took care of the problem....

Since then I have prayed about it, I got my answer. God showed me that we done what we were supposed to do, reach out and help. If someone takes advantage of that, God will Judge them & Convict them... and Deal with them, not us...

So I have not lost a giving Spirit, but I will be more careful in the Future....

Glad all worked out for You too.... Safely..

God Bless & PFDAN's
