A Bit of Rest - Hopeful for more tonight

I got 3 1/2 hours sleep this morning (when I was actually SUPPOSED TO BE AWAKE), but it's all good. I was supposed to finish a landscaping job I did for Michelle's landlord this morning, but I talked to her for a few and was able to push it back until tomorrow, which I still feel and look like hell, but not as bad as I was yesterday. 16 1/2 hours for an 11 day period is a far cry from the bodies required amount to properly rejuvenate and refresh. If I can sleep tonight, I might even feel a bit better tomorrow. Who knows. The weather here has been a rollercoaster the last two weeks, and I suspect that has played a major role in the insomnia. When I don't get rest, the Fibromyalgia gets much worse, almost to the point of crippling pain. Just like clusters, it takes another Fibro sufferer to understand the pain and how it affects your entire body. That pain, with the worst of it being in my right leg, at times to the point it gives out altogether, is I am convinced the greatest factor in my insomnia. The brain tries to shut off at several times, but the body will wake it right back up with the pain signals. And of course the one everyone here can relate to: When I do finally manage to get to sleep, the beast limits the Zzzzzz and when i come out of a brutal attack, no matter if it lasted only 20 minutes or 2 hours, I find it virtually impossible to fall back to sleep, whereas the Amitriptyline used to help me get back to sleep after an attack, but it no longer does. I got some scripts called in from the Doc today, and I am hoping the Ultram will ease the fibro pain, and also help me drift off. It's a better day than it has been lately. If I get some zzzz tonight, I should be okay. If sleep eludes again... I can't shake the feeling I have, that what was once fun and games (insomnia) has turned into a major beast of burden and may be the end of me yet. Sleep deprivation ages the body faster, wears down the heart, and can ultimately kill. If you are awake too many days, the body does not recharge and rejuvenate, and it will cause the body to go into shock and then organs start failing. Or in some cases the person suffers heart failure from over-exertion. I am still going to the Sleep Clinic for observation and treatment, because I don't want to die young. I want to try and make it to 50, just so I can say I beat my old man. He passed very suddenly at 49 from diabetes gone haywire and Myocarditis. That was when I began doing medical research on reading autopsy's. We wanted answers, and so I dug for clues and found many mistakes the Dr made that helped speed up my father's diabetes progressgion, but we didn't sue. Anyway, I am rambling. Mack

Thanks Giff. Who knows. If I can manage to get 5 1/2 in one night, I may feel like a new man again. I think the Ultram will help with getting to sleep. Oh, and I am going to talk to my GP about upping my Verapamil too on Monday. Peace, Mack

| That is why I am getting ready to join a support group online for fibro sufferers. Since I have been blessed to have found my fellow CH brethren who know the desperation the beast brings, I am sure I will be adopting a new family as well. You're not kidding with the Ultram being expensive as all get out. I know it isn't gonna take away the pain completely, but it will bring it down a few notches to a uncomfortable yet tolerable level. I also discovered I have a bad tooth. All day I have had a tooth ache and have just scoffed. Ffph! That isn't nothing compared to the rest of me. I at least have my wits about me more than I have had the past 2 days. Peace, Mack

Hey there, just thought I'd throw in my 2cents worth as a fellow fibro sufferer..... I take chelated magnesium for the pain - morning and night and the effects are noticable - when I forget to take it I KNOW... have tried other types of magnesium and they just don't work the same as the chelated. Its definately worth a try cos it's easy to get and not so expensive. Sometimes I'll take 3-4 in morning and again at night. Also L-carnitine is great for energy... of course don't take it in the afternoon cos it will keep you awake. It's a little pricy but worth it. Carl hope you get some more sleep tonight. Honestly the magnesium (if you're not already on it) is well worth a try - spose to help with sleep too. Catch you round, Kate

I appreciate all the vibes and sleep wishes. I think that it helped me to get to sleep this morning for at least 3 1/2 hours. I hope I can get much more tonight. Carl
