Stupid Dust Mites

Well had the asthma consultant and looks like i get to change a lot of things in my house cuz of my stupid allergy. The witch even told my husband that the turtles had to go. Those are my babies and they're not going anywhere. They're moving into hubby's office so the tank doesn't create so much moisture in the living room. I'm not allowed to have open cabinets or shelves. And I have to freeze my stuffed animal collection...(after culling them.) every 3 months. Any one want any stuffed animals? Well I'm going to do some of the stuff she suggested but I need volunteers for moving heavy furniture, laying vinyl flooring and someone who knows how to wallpaer...any volunteers? Juvy

Juvy, we had the do the same for my older son. I think that the docs sometimes want you to go to extremes. We took out bags of stuffed amimals and kept the live ones..lol. My son didn't want to give the cats away. We also got dust mite covers for the beds and pillows and that helped a lot. I couldn't remove the carpet from some places because of what's under it, but it is a low carpet and we treat it with dust mite spray. We also did this major cleaning one step at a time. it was too much for me all at once. Please be careful and get some helpers. take care, lionsound

I can relate to your plight...i'm very allergic to dust mites. So my house looks like a museum. I agree with Rori that allergists tend to take their requests to an extreme though. I do have special bedding and pillows that are dust mite resistant and I try to keep the house free of dust. I did have a few stuffed toys I had to get rid of as they're dust collectors like nothing else. Other than that, just do the best you can. Good luck! Langa

Why wallpaper instead of paint? Is that an order or a preference? Just curious. 2 of my sons have allergies to dust mites but other than a cover over the pillow and mattress and keeping out stuffed animals. That is all I do.

Luckily I'm allergic to allergies, meaning... I don't get them! Even though you have good intentions by offering your stuffed animals, I'm just concerned that you will be passing on a bunch of dust mites along with them! The unstoppable Rex

Dusty mites are a natural 'event' in life and seems we are becomeing hyper allergic to things we should be used to. I blame something in the eviroment for knockin our immune systems down.....not sure if it is additives or pollutants or just everyday things we are around made out of sumthing killing us. I dunno. I have a cat allergic to mold and about DIED from it.......I bought an ionizer that doesn't need fllter changes and you jus wipe it off inside. Fliters were as much as the machine. Mold is a big problem also........but I also think people go thru FAZES with allergy's. I had severe allergy's years ago and developed asthma.....we also had a kerosene heater in the house and when Brad lit it I felt my lungs swell and I could not breathe. Alot of things I got around caused that sensation after a while......even outside stuff. I seem'd to of grown out of it tho. My mom did the same thing and have known SEVERAL people that had horrid allergy problems for years and then they also grew out of it. I no longer use a kerosene heater and I guess anything to the extreme can cause serious consequences (them things stink too). Dunno what were doin to cause the problem with dust mites.......wonder if materials ect we use now days for everything attracks them or they are heavier investations with them cuz they really are a natural thing. My vet mentiond nasal mites bothering pets causes allergys no other vets know about exists. Mitey mite Pam

Sorry you're having a problem but be skeptical about the solutions you describe. You cannot get rid of dust mites unless you live in space. I guess you can minimize them but eliminate? I doubt it. Your turtles aren't a problem. That's nuts. EVERYBODY is allergic to dust mites. I rarely open a book without a sneeze or two. You are not alone. I've never heard of anyone going to an allergist either without finding tons allergies. They think you aren't happy if they don't tell you something. Scratch your arm? It got red? Whaddya know?. Damn quacks. Charlie (Who is a real curmudgeon on this topic)

I know people that got rid of all there pets and everything cool cuz of 'allergy's' or one of the kids allergy's. Real sad and hated they did it but who am I to tell them what to do.....and sure enuff they found OTHER things that bother'd them after they emptied out the house of material things. And....it was a faze.....in a year or so they were ok. Sum things will bother you forever tho.....I STILL can't breathe a pile of dust and not sneeze Pam
