Going through the headlines, I can see wherein the problem lies. Good deeds do not make the news. Anyway, as they trickle in once in awhile, it would be good to post them. I will update this thread when I find them. I'll be gone late this afternoon until Sunday, so if no one posts here, it'll be alright. I'll update it when I get back. mel

| Bingo! If I may, may I mis-quote you Melissa? Quote:Good deeds do not sell the news. |
| We will never hear about the 100's of thousands of people that have donated to accounts set up at their local banks. We will never hear about how one victim has helped another victim. Many companies are donating cash, equipment and personnel anonymously. They do it because it is the right thing to do and not for a PR ploy. (And before any load mouth gets his/her panties in a bunch I am not saying that all those that donate are looking for publicity). This list of good people, companies and countries the world over could go on forever so I’ll stop now.

Melissa, unfourtainly good, happy things are not part of the news values (created by Galtung & Ruge, who were from Norway if I recall it correctly). But negativity sure is. http://www.cultsock.ndirect.co.uk/MUHome/cshtml/media/nvdetail.html

I can't find links for anyone to read, but how about a story or two? Farmerville, LA-The shelter there is being completely supported by the townspeople. This is a local shelter with about 300 people in it and they have been overwhelmed with donations. West Monroe, LA-privately owned campground. The owner is not charging and has said that the evacuees have a *home* for as long as they need it. Heard on the news this morning that wal Mart has pledged 15 million to the relief effort, plus they are setting up mini-Wal Marts and people can come in and get what they need for free. There are so many *good* stories out there, it's impossible to even think about posting them all. 'darlin

I was watching live coverage on wwltv.com and they were talking about a guy from Baton Rouge that was repeatedly making trips into New Orleans to pick people up (complete strangers) who are waiting on I-10 for relief and transporting them back to Baton Rouge. I would assume that he is paying for the gas out of his own pocket.

| I've already done that. Redneck has nothing but high praise for Wal Mart (and he used to HATE them with a passion). Yes, Sam would be proud of his *baby*. 'darlin

Western New York is having a telethon right now - on NBC - they've already raised some amazing amounts of money. Not sure how long it's on tonight, but wishing them lots of luck in getting help to those that need it. Air Canada was flying out of Toronto this afternoon with supplies and apparently were also going to provide flights to get folks moved out of the area and into other places that could provide them with shelter and other basic necessities. Canadians are donating $ through the local Red Cross. There are some good folks out there! Carol

Company I work for...Madison-Based Wyeth Pharmaceuticals to donate $1,000,000.00 to Hurricane relief and also matching dollar for dollar all employee contributions (worldwide) to the Red Cross relief fund. (That's really nice) New Jersey acting Gov. R. Codey states they will not charge tolls to relief & humanitarian caravans that go through New Jersey toll roads. (I guess that's nice...could they afford it )
