Each year I take a picture to hang on the wall, and post here, of Lily's first day of school. This year I won't be waving to her as she gets on the bus at the end of the driveway.  I figure, she's in 5th grade, she doesn't need to be embarrassed by her mom. OMG, why is this so damn hard every year?? Seeing your baby grow up just SUCKS!!!!
Oh well, enough about me... here's Lily!

 She is gone now. She got on the bus which had a buncha older kids on it. I am so worried about her!! WAAAHHHHHH!!!  Even though Lily has a red belt in Karate, I swear I will seriously mess up some kid if they pick on her!

So cute, mel!! I love kids at this age (well, any age actually). They are entering hormonal hell, but are still little kids. They start to "get" adult humor, they are interested in the world around them, and you can actually have a mature conversation with them. The best thing is that, for the most part, they still like and respect their parents.
I know it's hard to watch them grow up, but with girls, the mother/daughter relationship can start to morph into more of a friendship. You begin to share interests, like cute clothes, cute shoes, cute guys, LOL
Have a great day, mel, and try not to watch the clock too much. I know how long a day can drag on if you're waiting for your kid to get home.

Good luck My youngest son is about that age. He is a hand ful, I bet she is too. Very good lookn little one. That smile says it all, Great job raising her. Wait till the back pack is loaded down with school books it will take a fork lift to haul it around. My kids started 3 weeks ago and the wife is bored to death during the day now.

Jimi, is yours a French door too? As for the pics on the glass, that is the kids artwork. Lily uses those markers that you can write on glass with by Crayola. Window Effects, I think they're called. I'll mention to Ruthie she get you some for Christmas.

It looks so different for me since our kids all wear uniform, Brid goes up a school next wek so I shall post a pic of her in her new uniform then.. its going to be a tough day. Doesn't seem five minutes since they all started playgroups does it?

Helen ~~I wish my daughter wore a uniform that would take away alot of the morning trials.... imagine.... 6:00 am... you tiptoe in and see the cutest little face sleeping wake her gently and within 20 minutes her head is spinning around and she is spewing green slime at me like the child in the Exorcist....next week I will wake her a half hour later....it will give her less time to torture me.... My friends say we will be great friends when she grows up... I truly don't know about that.... You know that saying that goes" If you weren't my daughter I would chose you for my friend".... well I don't feel that way.... Pray for me in the coming months.... Homework time is also a horror show. The old days when my Mom said "I don't understand this "new" math" have returned with a vengence again.... They screwed up math (just when I thought I was balancing my check book just fine). Its so hard for her that, again the head spins around as she tells me I don't know how to do it because I'm not in the 6th grade..... Most Moms dream of the first day of school... not me.... love to you Ree

And, Ree - Breezy, too. She's a beautiful girl. Trust me honey, it does get better once they pass the teen years. LOL loved your head spinning around, spewing green slime description though. I INTIMATELY can relate to that one!! You WILL end up being best friends with your daughter, but you also WILL have a short stopover in Hell from about age 15 - 18. Those years are the worst. But once the daughter gets out on her own and starts her own family, you, my dear will suddenly become brilliant in her eyes. THEN she will give you another grandbaby to spoil and, you and I both know that's the icing on the cake. I prayed for a girl grandbaby (because payback is such sweet serendipity.) I'm going to have SO much fun when Savannah gets to those years. I can hardly wait!!

I competely agree with Margi's take on it all. Seems that one day you're the enemy and the next day you're best friends. That's the part I like best. Wouldn't want to go through the teenage years again.

Lily said she had a GREAT first day and that she cannot wait to go back today! LOL! Right now she's waiting for her bus. We're not sure when this bus will come, as she was on a different one yesterday, but hopefully she gets dropped off after school a little earlier than 4:10pm like yesterday.  That sucked, especially when I need to get her to her 1st Karate class for 4:20pm and it takes 30min to get there.  ANYWAY, I can work around it, we just need to cut a class here and add another there.
Anyway, hope everyone else's kids are doing well! Thanks again for the compliments.
