I want to give you a peak of where I live. The old colonial house, with WW1 plumming and alot of candle-power Some of my back yard, the salt pans and the neighbours Some of my front yard, with local shop and the neighbours The local shop and liquor store Some neighbours and their Christmas dinner My cock named Chief who's gonna be my Christmas dinner if he doesn't watch his watch The street at my front gate and it is still has more tar than most roads here The salt pans from a balcony The sun setting while the clouds just tease The sun sets and now Africa comes alive!

Wow, that is just lovely. I've always dreamed of seeing Africa some day. Who knows...maybe I will one day. Thank you so much for sharing these. The sunset pics are especially nice.

| Carol these are sections in the salty sea lagoon that they partition off, then they drain the water and the heat and sun here also helps to evaporate the moisture. What is left is salt. They shovel this up, clean it and Whalha!... you've got your table salt!

Well, we live and learn. Guess I had never before thought about the devil table salt came from. Thanks Jas - your country sounds fascinating but I get an impression you haven't always lived there? Do you live in that whole huge house or is it done into apartments. It's beautiful. Makes me want to come sit on that upper balcony and drink my morning coffee while watching the sun come up.

Only lived here for the past 3 and a half years (Mozambique) but lived in Africa all my life. Live in the whole house which is good if you have teenagers who all want to listen to their own music, at top volume at the same time and each have their own friends over at the same time and have their own hormonal problems at the same time while I'm not sure if I have pre-menopausal hot flushes or just teenage hormonal overload or if it is not just a bloody hot day!

Wanted to go to Kinshasa or Kigali for lots of years now - since probably 9th grade. Kinshasa's kinda off the list at the moment - but maybe by the time I'm qualified enough to go with MSF, they'll stop killing each other... Absolutely beautiful pics!!! Can we have a convention at your place? hehe Hugz, Carrie

Totally FACINATEING !!! I have always been "infatuated" with Africa.........is it sorta 'backwoods' so to speak everywhere or do you have big fancy cities ? I know that sounds stupid but I am only familiar with our kinda lifestyle in my own areas. I like the more primitive ways also of the country but must admit I am spoiled with how it is here......a Walmart and liquor store on every corner practically. Fast food resturants are a dime a dozen here too. Do you ever see lions and tigers......or is that a more remote area ? Questions questions questions Pam

So when can I move in? Now that should draw a response. Well HEN? Only one problem, I would never be allowed in the country for any lenght of time. Got kicked out of Kenya already. And Japan, something they didnt like about my sense of humor at the time. and Singapore, bennie boys can run fast in heels. and Iran, ok got shot leaving, I guess they didnt want me back. Oh yea and Jamaca, something about beating a guy renting sailboats almost to death. Other than that Europe and most of americas and most of asia I can still visit. Just wish I had a chance to go to Australia.

Great pics, Jas. I've always wanted to visit Africa, you know, do the photographic safari thing, visit the cities, towns and villages, just to see Mother Nature at her best. The salt pan thing is really interesting. I never would have thought that was what you were talking about. Also, the Christmas dinner picture with the lady carrying the blue bowl on her head - was she looking at dinner, or was she carrying it already? Thanks for sharing Sandy

| Pam this is like most of Africa but there are big and very modern cities in nearly all African countries. But here where I live no, as this country has been through a terrible war not so long ago and you can still see it everywhere. Maputo is the capital and only real city in this country with here and there something modern. Because of the war, there is no wildlife left. There is an Elephant sanctuary but that's it. South Africa has extended the Kruger National Parks boundaries into Mozambique to re-introduce the wild into this country. We just hope they educate the locals before all the introduced wild becomes food. Everywhere in Africa you still find wildlife but they are only there if their Goverments protect them.

Jasmyn, Speaking of wildlife - did you hear the latest about the elephants? They are getting too numerous and it seems there is some uneasiness about how to take care of this! It's quite sad, really! Carrie

My dear goatie if you are so much trouble as your namesakes I cannot blame countries for banning you. Here they don't even care about your sweet stories, they just throw you in jail, with no phone call, no food and no women. You do the math. You might get out eventually, say about 10 years if they found your paperwork but by then you won't be a billy goat anymore and your voice would have changed!

| Carrie, culling is a natural part of animal control here but it is done by experienced game rangers that assess the health and age. It is very sad but elephants eat an enourmous amount and destroy vast pieces of habitat. If they become overpopulated there will be an inbalance and other animals will die out because of no food. But alot of elephant herds are also re-located to African countries with very little herds left. So culling is not the only option but it becomes sometimes the only solution.
