Seems as though it's headed our way here in Southeast Louisiana.

Stevegeebee, send me a word, I just pm you friend. Wishing you guys the best of luck with this.

Jean, looks as though New Orleans may have to wait for us, guess it's up in the air on next week.

Just wanted to let you guys know, we're preparing for the storms approach. Should make landfall sometime Monday.

Meanwhile, though, had to let the family know we're OK here for now.

hugs and prayers with all in the storms path,

Thanks Edna.

Getting ready.

Those of you that have gone through these things know what we are feeling.  It's hard to put into words.  You want to ride it out...but..I don't know.  This one looks bad.

I'll let y'all know how its going.

Prayers go out to all in the path of this storm wherever it goes.  It's going to be a really shitty Monday.

My advice is to head for the hills.  I knew it was inevitable as soon as I heard this one was named Katrina - today they were playing "walking on sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.  Curse you, clear channel!!

Are y'all under mandatory evacuation yet?  Steve or Edna, either of you, if you're pulling an rv by chance, got room for you at our shop.

Edna,

I know that you and SteveG know the routine, so I'll not harp on it.
You and Danny, Steve and Dianne have been there for enough years that you know when it's time to go.

My place is about 100 miles due north of Lake Charles off La171 on La191.  If either of you need a place to go...(and if the storms stays east of my place) you guys are welcome to use the lake house.

Just let me know if you think you might need it.  My husband is up there, and it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll be checkin' on y'all.    In the meanwhile, call me if you need too.

Much love,

Jean

Hello from the Special Needs Shelter Hell. This far north we will miss the worst. Just got a lull in activity here in the Regional Emergency Operations Center, and since I am the only one in the 2nd floor ops center with the triage phone line ( I have 9 nurses downstarirs i refer the calls to for the triage process) 3 radios, one for Baton Rouge, one for the shelter, and one for inhouse. Almost time to report numbers to Baton Rouge again. The nurses do most of the triage and get most info, but we get most of theirs situations here before referring them. These people are breaking my heart, every thing from no money, no transportation, etc. Phones ringing again, several hundred calls already today mostly from the New Orleans area. Keep your fingers crossed. Just got a call from a young lady that wanted me to tell her if the hurricane was going to hit avondale. Damn people, get the hell out.

Jimbo, one tired mutha,
I will get outta here at 2 am, started at 9 am. And will be back at 8am in the morning and no idea when I will  leave again.

Thanks for the offer Jean and others.

Just got a recorded phone call from the St. Tammany Parish President ordering a manditory evacuation.

Mayor of New Orleans recommended evacuation of the city and will likely officially order it early tomorrow morning.  This was prompted by a phone call to him form the National Huricane Center that this is the big one we have all been fearing.

Promised my next door neighbor that I would help him board up his house tomorrow morning.  His family left this morning and he offered to let Dianne and I stay at his house.  Our house is in a pine forest.  His house is less so.

It's strange...I walk out on the porch and listen to the hum of the cars from the Interstate 12 (which is about a mile from the back property line) drowning out the sound of the frogs and crickets... and I wonder, what will it sound like on Monday? What will it look like on Tuesday?

How our lives will change, from normal, in such a small span of time that will seem an eternity.

Good luck everybody.

So true.   It's the waiting...and the not knowing.

However, you and Dianne, and Edna and Danny and their kids have this family.   And you can bet there's gonna be a ton of prayers and vibes movin' your way.

Looks like Jimbo is standing watch....and you can bet he'll be lookin' our for you guys.

Take care of each other, Steve....that's about all you can do, sweetie.    Just know that we're with you.

Call me if you need anything...

Love to you and Lady Di,

Jean

Good luck to you all.  At this point it's not looking too good.  She's made a category five now.

Redneck got in at three this morning and is heading back out shortly.  I'll be following him in a bit to man the radio at the special needs shelter.

SadSadSadSad My prayers are with you guys.  When I turned on the weather channel this morning, my hopes just died.  Please, if anyone who is reading this thread is in the path of this hurricane, LEAVE and get out of its way!!  This one is a killer and no one should give priority of life over property.

Just heard on the news that the city is going to be submerged because the pumps that keep the water out right now, are going to fail due to all the water that'll be dumped.

Also read part of this on the news story on Yahoo, and I just cannot BELIEVE it!! nono

Quote:
Making matters worse, at least 100,000 people in the city lack the transportation to get out of town. Nagin said the Superdome might be used as a shelter of last resort for people who have no cars, with city bus pickup points around New Orleans.

Louisiana and Mississippi made all lanes northbound on interstate highways. Mississippi declared a state of emergency and Alabama offered assistance to its neighbors. Some motels as far inland as Jackson, Miss., 150 miles north of New Orleans, were already booked up.

Some tourists heeded the warnings and moved up their departures, and lines of tourists waited for cabs on New Orleans' famed Bourbon Street.

But plenty of people in the French Quarter stayed put, and bars were rocking Saturday night.

"The only dangerous hurricanes so far are the ones we've been drinking," said Fred Wilson of San Francisco, as he sipped one of the famous drinks at Pat O'Brien's Bar. "We can't get out, so we might as well have fun."

New Orleans' worst hurricane disaster happened 40 years ago, when Hurricane Betsy blasted the Gulf Coast. Flooding approached 20 feet deep in some areas, fishing villages were flattened, and the storm surge left almost half of New Orleans under water and 60,000 residents homeless. Seventy-four people died in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.

Katrina is the 11th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1. That's seven more than typically have formed by now in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, the hurricane center said. The season ends Nov. 30.

I'm sorry, but if you can afford to drink, you can afford to get out of town.  But alas yes, I know that some just really don't care what happens to them.  Too bad I do. Angry

Get the hell out of there woman.  Grab Danny and the kids, and haul ass.  You are welcome up here in Texas (it's not tornado season... Grin).

Glad you are out Steve, hope you will be able to get back to your home relatively quick.

Here's hoping it takes a drastic weakening before it lands.

T   Cool

Not the way I wanted to get back to work in New Orleans...... Sad
