Interesting Letter From A Former Chronic Sufferer
« on: Aug 19th, 2005, 5:15pm »

Just been doing more personal research on our malady and I stumbled upon this letter from an Attorney who was chronic for 18 years to Diamond Headache Clinic. I asked Mr Rosenstein his permission to post the link here and he responded kindly. Might be something to think about too, especially if you are chronic and suffer from 'other' pain. This is worth a read.

Holy shit.... I've always had phenomenally great eyesight. I'm a "righty." Last cycle, (began in late February) I was reading and briefly rubbed my left eye without my eyes leaving the page. The entire page blurred, so I tried adjusting the distance that I was holding the book at. My right eye has become extremely far-sighted. I need to make an eye appointment but keep putting it off. I really don't need glasses. Yet. It makes me wonder if I haven't somehow damaged the lens of my right eye by grinding my palm into it...

In any case, that was quite an interesting (and frightening) letter.

I think the dude has a few screws loose too.
Never heard of a shrinking brain due to clusters before.

PS. I bet Dr. Diamond got a big laugh from this letter.

The ideas are worth thinking about, but I am not buying it.  Brain shrinkage is probably from prolonged pain, inflamation, or some other biochemical abnormality like reduced blood flow to the brain.   There is no evidence that the brain shrinks  for the purpose of reducing the area of the brain that causes the problem (hypothalamus or cortex or whatever ).  To the contrary, it could be that people with more shrinkage have more problems with the hypothalamus.

But his letter does hold out hope - even people with bad CH can outgrow it or see them reduced over time.  And even though it wasn't a scientific study, maybe there is something to it.  Who knows?

I am taking the opposite approach - I am going to try to keep my brain from shrinking; everytime I feel it shrinking, I am going to push some more chi up that way.  Oh, I think I feel some shrinkage... there, nipped that little one in the bud.

Ueli........where are you when we need you?

No doubt sincere but he seems a tad unhinged--all those headaches didn't help of course.

I'm glad his headaches are better anyway.

Nowadays, I wake up before it even hits Kip 5 and am able to kill it with 02, I guess what Im trying to say is that I avoid 95% of HA's.....and have been for some time.....Cured?......I doubt it......Happy?.....Wish you were with me on this!

Oh great, as if I don't have enough problems! Roll Eyes

BTW, the vision thing sucks.  My history is already horrid with eyesight problems.  I bet I'll be blind before I turn 65. Undecided

Anyway, that's an interesting theory, but I've never heard of it before.  There are many other chronic brain problems out there and you never hear about brain shrinkage. Huh

I posted this on OUCH UK and it raised a point I hadn't thought of which is that Jasper hasn't exactly had a lot of time for brain shrinkage! He isn't the ONLY kid with CH sadly either.

Could it be the brain shrinkage could be caused by the five meds he was on?  Five meds all at one time?  What were they, and what dosages?

Interesting theory.

This might explain my kid's referring to my brain as the black hole.  ANd here I always thought they meant I was a deep thinker.
