I've tried listening a couple times until I hear familiar voices on the radio. Some of these guys in the command ranks taught at the state fire academy and I knew a couple well, especially special opps chief Ray Downey, one of the best officers/instructors I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. 5-5-5-5 Never forget

I saw and heard a few of these on network news, which I don't often see. Pretty upsetting and hard on us all. Every now and then it gets to me just how horrible this thing was. Nothing in my lifetime compares to it. Charlie

| I have heard alot of people talk about remembering where they were when President Kennedy was assassinated, and how they could remember that moment. For those of us born later, I think 9/11 is one of those moments that no matter who you are - you remember when and where. My old neighbor had called me that morning and told me to turn on the TV, and was telling me how the plane had crashed and all. I was sitting there watching, with Chris still on the phone, when I saw the 2nd plane coming and was like "What the hell?" and then it impacted the 2nd tower. I screamed "Holy shit! This is no accident!" And like everyone else, was gripped as the other reports started coming in. In fact, I think someone would have to be without a soul to not be affected by it. This is one of the most beautiful tributes to those who died on that day. It is a semi that has a list of all the names called the Rolling 9/11 memorial. If you've never seen this, it is worth a look. http://usaattacked.com/the_rolling_911_memorial.htm

| I agree Carl, not only that, I can remember the rising panic, the lump in my throat I couldn't swallow, EVERYTHING about that day with crystal clarity. I will never forget, I never want to forget. I'll make sure my kids never forget either. Even Jasper who was 3 weeks old to the day on 9/11

In a way, I'm sorry I posted this thread... The memories are still so raw. The horror, the wondering whether the nightmare was going to end, after news of the third plane in Pennsylvania... The scenes from the news... I was utterly stunned for about a week, and then one day, I watched a tribute of the moments of mourning that the nations of the world had gone through, and I started crying. And crying and crying... and my eyes are full of tears now, as I type this. My heart hurts, and to feel this for those who lost their lives on that day, most of them, so brave and valiant; well, to carry this pain is an honor, and no, I will never, never, never forget. God bless our world. We are one.

If those memories are ever anything but raw, if we can ever watch that footage or listen to those tapes without breaking down then we have lost our humanity.

I was inches away from signing back up with the National Guard and then putting in for active duty again, on 9/12. And no, I don't regret the post, but the wounds are still raw... Please please, support the troops, whether you agree with the war or not. Those young men and women can use books, grooming item, feminine hygiene products, stationery, basic toiletries, candy (both for handing out to kids, as well as for themselves), prepaid phone cards, letters, (no nude or p*rnographic magazines; but hot rod magazines, hunting and fishing magazines, etc; newspapers.... Whatever you have that you can give, out of the goodness of your heart. I've been there. I know. Also, for those of you who have Frequent Flyer Miles, you can donate them so that these young men and women home on Leave, can fly from the airport that they enter the US from, to their hometowns, because our government, in all of its f*cking wisdom, only pays for these soldiers to fly as far as Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, or LAX. What a f*cking disgrace.... Support is more than just a nifty yellow ribbon magnet on the back of your car.

I agree, my whole family sends boxes after boxes of stuff over to the MEN & WOMEN over there, we send a box a week, of all kinds of stuff, & my brother passes the stuff out to everyone, plus he takes boxes of stuff over to other stations for other people too, we send movies, socks, bug spray, tooth paste, candy, tuna, can goods, baby power, deoderant, & so on, they really need that stuff too, there are Men & Women who have no one to send them stuff, & some the familys can't afford to send!!, & I don't give to red cross to send, cause this way I know the Men & Women are getting what I send!!! PFDAN TO ALL !! Lots of Love Jolene

I agree this was a great thread. Everyone's responses echo exactly how I feel and have felt since 9/11 happened. I can remember feeling like my stomach dropped to my toes and then flew back up with such force that I didn't keep any food down for a week. I remember lying in bed that night crying and thinking how do I explain this to my child - my innocent, wonderful and trusting son. How could I bring such a wonderful creature into such an insane world? I remember having panic attacks going anywhere or even waking in the middle of the night thinking is this the last time I tell my family I love them. Are they going to hit us with chemical warfare next? Then I realized, I can't stop it from happening if it does happen, just like I couldn't stop 9/11 from happening because it did happen. What I can do is exactly what I do every single day since then. I get up in the morning and thank God that he has brought the sunlight into my room to wake me and I go smother kisses on my son until he wakes up. I say prayer of thanks to the men and women fighting for our freedom and thank God for them because they are why I am able to have a sunlight filled kissing morning each and everyday. God Bless the men and women who so bravely fight for all our freedoms! Blossom

| Yes that's exactly it. I was in chemistry lab from 8am-12noon. I didn't know. They didn't tell us. I walked up to the music building to get ready to accompany a lesson (which I still had to do....I'll never forget THAT either...) and to go to class. When I said something to my 2 friends outside the music building, they said, "You better check if you still have class." I gave them a weird look and said, "Why wouldn't I have class? It's Tuesday..." They then gave me a look that I won't forget and said, "Oh...you didn't hear yet..." Then, of course, the worst news......... I called my dad immediately - he told me towers 1 and 2 were gone....I didn't get it until he said it about 5 times. Also about the plane crashed in PA - not all that far from Penn State, and my friend always worked at a camp there every summer. We didn't know if my Aunt Judi was flying that day (American Airlines flight attendant) - nor where my aunt was - who works in Manhattan. Later found out that my aunt's 2 best friends were killed. Many of my friends were finding out about lost loved ones - this is true for almost all of us, I would suppose - I don't know anyone who wasn't connected in some way... A slew of parents (God I hate to even think about this at all...but it's important to remember) were killed who lived in my 2 aunts' town - an area where many people had jobs in Towers 1 and 2. That afternoon, I had glued myself to the television, made many phone calls, eaten about 3000 calories in probably 2 hours, fell asleep, and woke up thinking it was a horrific nightmare...... My friend Erin and I decided we couldn't stand to be in our apartments - so we met up at the HUB - which is Penn State's student union. On our way there we passed our friend Erik - he said he was going to sign up for ROTC the next day. We all just stood on the street corner not even knowing what to do or say. We sat in the HUB for awhile - looked to donate blood, but they couldn't take any more people that day - only Erin could donate anyways - but I would have stood there with her. Anything not to worry about those I still coudln't reach by phone. And anything to help... I have a book about 9/11 - I think it was the book put out by Time, but I am not sure... I take it out from time to time - to remember......and I always cry every single time I look at those pictures. I know I'm not alone in that. But it's good to remember - To remember and to honor always. I remember learning so many things in school and thinking how they must have seemed at the time - but never able to fully grasp it. I wonder that the future generations will be the same way - not ever able to grasp the full extent of 9/11. I'm sure that the fact that we now have such extensive media coverage will probably make it easier for them to 'live' it - long into the future - but they'll never have 'lived' it......it will be an event in history, not a fresh thing in their minds. So it's up to us to remember, honor, and to pass on everything about it - never, ever to forget.
