Who knows, man? In Bush's attempt to make america safer, he did not sign the new immigration bill into law because he said it was too "tough". We have a self-proclaimed conservative in office, and we have a self proclaimed conservative congress, but for some reason, they refuse to close the borders. Did you hear about the dude that they let in the country from BC, Canada? he was covered in blood, had many tools of death, including a chainsaw that had blood all over it. The border patrol let the man into the USA with no questioning. He then was pulled over later that night for another reason. Why cant we just put a separation zone between the USA and mexico and canada? why cant we have a 1 mile buffer that is loaded with landmines, and also has snipers stationed and they are trained to shoot anything that moves? what is wrong with that? Did you hear the one about the mexicans that sued the USA cause we didnt provide water in the middle of the arizona desert so that then mexicans would have some refreshing relief as they were walking across the desert? I think the mexicans won, we now have to supply water to the mexicans that are walking through the desert illegally, and in this country. How shameful BMonee

| Was that really a lawsuit, or just humane policy? Sorry, I just can't fathom that providing water to anyone who is (literally) dying of thirst is shameful.

oh, what did you hear about the dude with the chainsaw? That is the 'news' story i heard. and Nani, i believe it was a full blown lawsuit. These people arent supposed to even be here, so why is it necessary to make it even easier, or even more comfortable to illegally get in? I have an idea for you!! If you dont want to die of thirst, stay the fuck in your own country!!!!! What do we have to do? make a freakin enclosed, air conditioned conveyor belt to let the mexicans come here in the most comfort possible? No thanks BMonee

| Sadly, a complete change of government. Walking papers for everyone! Spineless congressional idiots. The story from the desert was not really Mexicans suing but rather an oppotunistic and shameless Amercian lawyer. He contacted the families of the Mexican probably promising free US admission and nice nest egg (compliments of you and I, the taxpayers). Once Barbara Boxer got hold of it, well, the rest is history. I'd recommend vats of seawater as far as the eye can see. (Would like to add razor-wire and electric fence to the mix as well)

It's about having an endless supply of low cost servents for folks that hate getting their hands dirty. It's about keeping a high volume low cost labor instead of paying the living wage some employers would have to pay educated citizens. It's about keeping the hispanic vote. It's about overly confused liberal thinking that somehow sees illegals as having rights equal to taxpaying citizens. It's about not really wanting to do what is necessary to implement valid and effective Homeland Security because it would piss of civil rights groups that use our tax dollars to defend illegals. We have leaders that lack the guts to do what is necessary. Close and police the borders. Track down all illegals without visas or with expired visas regardless of their national origin, arrest and deport them. Their presence in this country represents a crime. Since when did it become and option to treat criminals as special guests and welcome more with closed eyes? There's no such thing as an innocent illegal. To repeat myself: It's cool to have the neighbors over to swin in your pool but it's stupid to keep inviting them when they start pissing in your garden. Tom

I hate to be the one to say this, BUT in that news story, is there ANYTHING in it that even suggests that anything these guys did was inappropriate. I mean, is it really that strange to have illegal immigrants in NYC, and is it all that strange for people not necessarily familiar with the subway system to have maps of the subway? And is it strange for people from other countries to have videotapes of famous landmarks? And is it strange that an illegal immigrant would have his money in cash as he might not be able to get a bank account? I am not saying that I am in favor of illegal immigrants. Far from it. I am saying that the news story sounded like it tried to link these guys to something suspicious, but, it doesn't sound all that suspicious. Also - the bloody dude who crossed the border, I believe he crossed into Maine, at the least had a bloody knive and a sword, had his weapons confiscated, and was allowed into the country. After this he was linked to a murder that he was escaping from. Casey

Actually, here's the story on the chainsaw guy: Quote:Man with what appeared to be a bloody chain saw let into U.S. He was later charged with murder in Canada The Associated Press Updated: 3:21 p.m. ET June 7, 2005 BOSTON - On April 25, Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood. U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States. The following day, a gruesome scene was discovered in Despres’ hometown of Minto, New Brunswick: The decapitated body of a 74-year-old country musician named Frederick Fulton was found on his kitchen floor. The man’s head was in a pillow case under a kitchen table. His common-law wife was discovered stabbed to death in a bedroom. Despres, 22, immediately became a suspect because of a history of violence between him and his neighbors, and he was arrested April 27 after police in Massachusetts saw him wandering down a highway in a sweat shirt with red and brown stains. He is now in jail in Massachusetts on murder charges, awaiting an extradition hearing next month. At a time when the United States is tightening its borders, how could a man toting what appeared to be a bloody chain saw be allowed into the country? Questioned for two hours at border Bill Anthony, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the Canada-born Despres could not be detained because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen and was not wanted on any criminal charges on the day in question. Anthony said Despres was questioned for two hours before he was released. During that time, he said, customs agents employed “every conceivable method” to check for warrants or see if Despres had broken any laws in trying to re-enter the country. “Nobody asked us to detain him,” Anthony said. “Being bizarre is not a reason to keep somebody out of this country or lock them up. ... We are governed by laws and regulations, and he did not violate any regulations.” Anthony conceded it “sounds stupid” that a man wielding what appeared to be a bloody chain saw could not be detained. But he added: “Our people don’t have a crime lab up there. They can’t look at a chain saw and decide if it’s blood or rust or red paint.” Assault, threat charges in Canada Sgt. Gary Cameron of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police would not comment on whether it was, in fact, blood on the chain saw. On the same day Despres crossed the border, he was due in a Canadian court to be sentenced on charges he assaulted and threatened to kill Fulton’s son-in-law, Frederick Mowat, last August. Mowat told police Despres had been bothering his father-in-law for the past month. When Mowat confronted him, Despres allegedly pulled a knife, pointed it at Mowat’s chest and said he was “going to get you all.” Police believe the dispute between the neighbors boiled over in the early-morning hours of April 24, when Despres allegedly broke into Fulton’s home and stabbed the couple. Fulton’s daughter found her father’s body two days later. His car was later found in a gravel pit on a highway leading to the U.S. border. Despres hitchhiked to the border crossing. After the bodies were found on the afternoon of April 26, police set up roadblocks and sent out a bulletin that identified Despres as a “person of interest” in the slayings, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Mental competence questioned The bulletin caught the eye of a Quincy police dispatcher because it gave the suspect’s Massachusetts driver’s license number, missing a character. The dispatcher plugged in numbers and letters until she found a last known address for Despres in Mattapoisett. She alerted police in that town, and an officer quickly spotted Despres. In state court the next day, Despres told a judge that he is affiliated with NASA and was on his way to a Marine Corps base in Kansas at the time of his arrest. After the case was transferred to federal court, Despres’ attorney, Michael Andrews, questioned whether his client is mentally competent. Fulton’s friends in Minto, a village of 2,700 people, told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal that he was a popular musician, a guitarist known as the “Chet Atkins of Minto” and a 2001 inductee in the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame. © 2005 The Associated Press. Let's hire former STASI agents as consultants (remember, they did a great job with the Berlin Wall and also had their country's border sealed), add machine guns, tanks, artillary, all of our ground combat forces, cameras, electronic sensors, the works! What a wonderful feelling it will be to live in a country that is a big concentration camp (and we'll need lots of little ones for those who don't agree with the State). Aside from keeping out those nasty illegal immigrants and other foreigners, not to mention cutting off trade with the outside world, we should also not forget our neighbors to the north and south. I wouldn't be surprised if the Canadians and Mexicans are hatching a plot right now to invade us and take over while most of our army is away overseas...BEWARE, THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Better safe than sorry, right? "Shoot them all and let god(?) sort them out!" Amen.

Closing and Policing the borders to prevent entry of Illegals - those who attempt to enter the country illegally. Deporting illegals without visas or with expired visas - those who are illegally in the country. Isn't building a "Berlin Wall" that kept citizens in and locked everyone out Isn't "cutting off trade with the outside world" Isn't making the country "a big concentration camp" Isn't recommending that we "shoot them all, and let God sort them out" Isn't stopping legal imigration. My ancestors entered this country that way. Is enforcing our existing imigration laws. Is improving "Homeland Security" by dramatically reducing/eliminating the ability of outside terrorists to freely enter the country. Is at the very least removing criminal elements from U.S. communtities that can/do freely cross between borders. Is reducing the burden on taxpaying citizens to provide illegals housing, prison space, assistance programs, medical care, etc., etc., etc., - for non-contributors to the system. Is making a stronger effort to control the flow of drugs into the U.S. Don't paint common sense as extremism just to make a point. Leave that as something for the politicians to do. Tom

Actually, what we need is a moat full of toxic chemicals and automatic laser weapons to mow down our citizens if they try to escape to those naughty countries not blessed with our glorious vision of the future. Lets make a fact-finding tour of North Korea; they're good at this. Remember, profile; especially those people with funny hats. Shoot first and.....well.....there you are. No evil doers allowed nor those upsetting ideas of evolution and those other uncomfortable scientific theories. After all, most of them are liberal plots to force distirbing critical thinking on our happy people. No need to spend time and money on international trade, sports, travel to those "cute" countries, and wasting our precious bodily fluids helping those ungrateful "brown" people. Charlie

What the hell, Charlie, I think that trying to bring reason to this thread is a lost cause for us. Let's lock up all of the Muslims (of course, there are white, black, oriental, middle eastern Muslims, so we'll have to lock up a lot of people). To be safe, let's include black persons, spicks, chinks and for good measure Jews-can't be too careful). Why not adopt the famous flag of traitors, the confederate flag, as our new flag. We can also burn some books for fun-Darwin, as you suggested Charlie, would be a good first as he had the audacity to suggest the theory of evolution! I think that, according to the bible, the earth is only about 8,000 years old (all of those old dinosauerbones were just planted by the world-wide athestic, commie liberal cabal that controls the media and the governments of the world). Gimme that old time religion!

| Because cousin Ronnie would get shot off his tractor while out bailing hay, not to mention all the poor cows that would end up as hamburger. Seriously, we have a gazillion Border Patrol agents here and they spend more time in town riding around, chatting with the local cops and hanging out at Dunkin Doughnuts than they do along the border. Then if someone trips a border sensor they go tearing through town doing 110 miles an hour running everyone over to find out it was a deer, all the while about 15 miles east of here the border along the local indian reservation is totally unguarded, and the natives are left to do what they want including smuggling people into the US. I really don't think the US government is too commited to protecting the borders, just creating jobs in "Homeland Security".
