scared & need your opinions...

2 times in the last 2 days when I've gotten hit it has come on so fast and hard I actually saw stars or a silver flash. It made me jerk it was so intense and I didn't scream but by God I wanted to. I got dizzy for about 2-3 minutes and felt like I was going to pass out. I guess what is so wierd about it is I get hit on the left (used to be a right sider but when I started in cycle again in Feb. I am getting hit on the left) but I have had a constant headache on the right since yesterday afternoon at about 1:30 when I had this happen the first time. What do you guys think? I can't get into my doctor because he is on vacation (go figure) - would you go to the ER or urgent care for this or do you think I will get the usual "oh she's just a drug seeker" response or just wait for my doctor to get back next week? Thanks in advance guys! Karen

A headache coming on quick is not out of the norm, but the dizziness and the passing out feeling is not the norm. If it continues or happens again ... I would seek out a doc asap. Goodluck Unsolved

Yep. The dizziness and flashes of light seem ominous. Basically, whenever the characteristics of your headaches change, you need to go get a check-up, just to be on the safe side. Hang in there Karen, but please do get checked out by your doctor ASAP.

Ok, I just hate going into the ER or urgent care and they look at me like I'm a total freak or something because they know nothing about headaches except migraines. It sucks. Well, if it happens again this weekend I will definately go otherwise I will go to my dr. next week as planned. Thanks guys!

I know this was discuss'd before......but wouldn't it be a good idea in cases like this to have a printed out sheet about CH and maybe even a doctors signiture at the bottom for ER visits or emergency's......or some sorr of 'card' with the same info in yer wallet in with your ID ? Seems it would be easier then tryin to explain it all and look like a addict needin a fix when ya walk in. I have often thought about that for Brad cuz he looks SCAREY when hit and gets to be hard to talk to or communicate with. Just looking at him would give the ER or someone that has no clue the wrong idea's wether it be drug related or insane related. His family has never seen him get hit and I have tried to explain it to them since they do this beach vacation once a year together. (I don't go......me packed in a vehicle that long with inlaws and in a small cabin a week......you kiddin ?) He had a bad odd ball cycle last time.......but I am afraid what mite happen if he got hit suddenly when drivein them south on that long long trip.....he got hit harder faster last time Pam Scares me he'd have to pull off that busy highway on the trip with the family and mom that is in a wheelchair and loose it.........they'd do all the wrong things and panic and if a cop stopped.........oh my. He'd NOT be able to explain himself........he's never done the injections yet or tried the 2 way idea or whatever.......it's been 4 years since last cycle. Can ya tell I am worried ??

| Karen, my love, I really think you should go get this check out. It is not normal for you. Those last two words are the important ones. The headaches that you mention are the ones that I call a "ton of bricks hitting me" headache. I do get them now and then. From nothing to KIP8-9 in nanoseconds, and yes, I have passed out from them. Also, not to scare you, twice I had them: slammed with the headache, passed out, and THEN had a heart attack. But then again, I do have minor heart problems ... (Anything less than "the big one" is minor heart problems.) But the important thing is, if it is a sudden and major change than what is normal for you, have it checked out. Any of us that have had them for any length of time, knows that the beast is constantly changing his stripes, but not normally sudden and drastic, as you are describing. Now on to Cootie, and the rest of you: on Jul 23rd, 2005, 12:01am, cootie wrote:wouldn't it be a good idea in cases like this to have a printed out sheet about CH and maybe even a doctors signiture at the bottom for ER visits or emergency's......or some sorr of 'card' with the same info in yer wallet in with your ID ? |
| Funny you should mention this. When Helen (leLimey) was here, she gave me a card that OUCH UK had printed that does just what you say. I am looking into what it would cost to have them printed up, or set it up as a file that anyone that has a computer and printer can buy the business card blanks and print their own. Of course, I first have to get permission from OUCH UK to steal their idea and wording. And then I have to submit my plan to the BoD to see if they like it or not. Good luck, Karen Chuck

I am definately taking a run to the ER in the morning. Colin is sound asleep and you know the saying "let sleeping dogs lie" - that also applies to my child! I will let you all know what I find out. I am hoping I am just having a wierdo cycle but it has me worried so I will have it checked out. The idea of having the cards printed is excellent! I will start checking around this area as well. Kind of like the medic alert bracelets in card form! VERY COOL! Karen

I actually just recently got my card from OUCH UK in the mail....only had a chance to sit down and open the membership packet tonight. What a neat packet! I haven't had time to read through everything yet, but I liked it! Here's a link to helpful ER forms, and I know the National Headache Foundation has some posted - but personally I more often recommend the ones on about.com because I know Teri personally and her work is excellent: http://headaches.about.com/cs/advocacy/a/emerg_forms.htm Forms to Help Get Better Emergency Care Those who go to emergency rooms and urgent care facilities JUST to get drugs have made getting emergency treatment more difficult for legitimate pain patients. In some cases, a form completed by your physician can make a big difference. Here are forms for your use.

Well, its tough to say. If you feel something is definately wrong, I would seek care. Maybe try to make an appointment with a person who is covering your doc. I would drink plenty of water, and eat good food with lots of nutrition. In the next couple of days if you have the same experience, i would get in to see someone. PF wishes and good health vibes being sent your way. BMonee

I spoke to our little flower this afternoon. She says the atypical CHs have stopped. She assures me she will promptly go to the ER should they return or anything else significant happens. She also assures me that she will see her dr early next week.

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. I am DEFINATELY going tomorrow first thing. The wierd headache is back and I had a couple times tonight when I had a shooting pain in the back of my head which is most definately not normal for me. I have good insurance so I guess I will use it! I was thinking it had something to do with my (sorry all you men!) period because I get hormone induced migraines along with the clusters but when I get migraines they are always in the front and never shooting pain like this. I just talked to my mom and she is going to take Colin in the morning first thing so I can go. It really sucks that this makes me feel like a hypochondriac of some sort but I need the reassurance that nothing is going on in there! I am sure that I will get the same response as usual when the MRI comes back "Nope not a thing inside your head!" Maybe my theory of the bleach from dying my hair is sinking into my brain isn't so far fetched?! Sorry, trying to keep a sense of humor instead of having a freak out! I will let you guys know what I find out and if anything happens before then Chris (new one) is supposed to let you all know.

You aren't being a hypochondriac, and yes, keep your sense of humor because that's a hell of a lot better than freaking out. Glad to hear that you're going to get a check-up, and looking forward to the next update. Hang in there, my friend.

We already discussed this young lady... It is much better to err on the side of caution. If it happens again tonight, can (new) Chris stay with Colin and you can get to the ER? Have a plan. Call 911 if neccessary, you pay taxes for those services. Don't make me come there and take you myself...

FRANK! I forgot completely- I fell asleep last night so I didn't get to try the preemptive (spelling is wrong I'm sure but I don't feel like going to dictionary.com to check it!) strike. I'm sure I won't be awake long enough tonight either since I'm just about to pass out at the computer! Colin has kept me running today... went for school supplies this morning, got home from WalMart put on the swimsuits and went to the pool for 3 hours, got home took a shower and off to see the Fantastic 4, drove by a house we found to buy (um, no! bad neighborhood! we are talking ghetto!) and came home. It's been a run about day in 102 weather! bleech.
