It's rare indeed that a slacker (me) takes part in anal retentive activities but a sloppy musical directory is grounds for a pole axing. To wit, I'm clueless as to what genre to place the following song and appeal to the Mass-Mind of the cluster-gang to let me know just where the heck this goes!

Preesh the listen and effort folks. The confidence of Redd seems immune to dissention. I'll put it in the soft jazz directory and see who listens here in the abode and takes issue!

Ramon says

It's Eva Cassidy and it is classified "officially" as the Blues.

However it can cross over into Jazz or Folk.

He says to also check out the song "Autumn Leaves" by her also. Roll Eyes

That's what he says.
He knew this song from the first bar........... geeesh Roll Eyes

My husband is a plethera of information. Undecided

I looked this one up on the internet...

Quote:
Following the subtly modern bent of much of The Cape Verdean Blues, Horace Silver recommitted himself to his trademark "funky jazz" sound on The Jody Grind. Yet he also consciously chose to keep a superbly advanced front line, with players like trumpeter Woody Shaw (retained from the Cape Verdean session), altoist/flutist James Spaulding, and tenor saxophonist Tyrone Washington. Thus, of all Silver's groove-centered records, The Jody Grind winds up as possibly the most challenging.

However this particular piece I still would classify as soft or smooth Jazz.

LOL...Real Rhapsody puts it into the Psychedelic genre. Maybe my Real Player is just confused and it just took a guess based upon my earlier playlists Wink

Personally, I picture the crowd all wearing berets and snapping their fingers in approval with Dennis Hopper in the front row sucking on an oxygen mask.  Lips Sealed

I'd add a couple Selmer Sax, Tama/Zildgian drum set, Buddy Guy on a Fender and a fifth of Jack Daniels to pass....but then that's just me.  Grin
