The FAMILY vacation from HELLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

We started out on a great “family adventure”. Son, wifey, little Caleb, Papaw and Granny. We almost got out of Shreveport before that fell apart at the seams! Wife started complaining, son was disgruntled, Caleb was hungry, papaw was grouchy and Granny was ready to KILL the whole bunch.
We made it to Baton Rouge the first night and had a nice visit the next day with Granny’s uncle. Caleb fell in love with him and his wife. Uncle (who never liked kids except Granny) gave Caleb one of his prized badges (he is a retired Fed security officer). Later we went to the aquarium in New Orleans and Caleb spent the whole time arresting people visiting the aquarium.
Sometime the next day we arrived in Florida to a remake of “Jaws”. There had just been a shark attack as we were arriving and the beach was being cleared. That shot the first day at the beach. Granny went to BED! Got up the next morning to see a school (guess that’s what you call them) of sharks swimming real CLOSE to the shore and decided the deck looking down on the beach was close enough to the ocean for me! Drank my coffee on the deck and then the rest of the “family” got up and interrupted my day. Two brothers in law, a sister-in law, some sort of cousin and my darling family. Bill got up sick. Oh JOY – we could have done this at home. So I spend my second day in “paradise” washing clothes, cooking, cleaning up after my five (and the two brother-in-laws who I helped raise). Great Maytag washer in this place – except it’s on the second floor and my bunch is on the first floor – the kitchen (and coffee pot) is on the second floor also – Granny don’t do stairs too well. Never did make it up to the third floor.
Little Sister’s house is BIG so I didn’t have to run into the rest of the “family” a whole lot except on the second floor kitchen. I think (from what I heard) she invested in FL real estate and rents this thing out most of the year except for these “family” vacations. Being nosey, I priced the real estate around here… Lots go for about a mil and this darn house runs about six mil. Oh shit! Caleb keep your hands off this stuff!!!! Rentals are about $40,000 a month! Hope she bought it when the market was low… Great porches. Don’t think she appreciated it when I told her she should install an elevator. Oh welll……..
By Wednesday, Bill is REALLY sick so we check out the ER in Sandestin. Great emergency facilities there. Better really than we have at home. They treated him – wanted to admit him, but he refused so I took him back to the house and put him to bed – now I’m a nurse, babysitter, housekeeper – great vacation so far folks!!!
People started leaving Thursday (not as much washing – this is GOOD!) Bill is not doing so great. Friday everyone takes off, including son (who I rented a car for and told to take wifey HOME NOW before I killed them all – missed Caleb, but didn’t want him to see me kill his mother). Bill is not doing well, so I didn’t think he could travel.
Saturday, Bill had a bad turn and I almost lost him. He was taking a bath and had some kind of seizure. Instead of calling 911, somehow (and I don’t even remember it) I got him out of the tub, got clothes on him, got him in the truck and to ER. The worked on him quite a while – it was touch and go for a couple of hours, but he pulled thru. The DID admit him this time. He got out yesterday and the doc said I could bring him home.
One of his other sisters and her family arrived Sunday and they were wonderful. One of the kids even offered to give up his vacation and drive us home – no way would I let him do that but it was a great offer. But we took off yesterday afternoon and got in sometime this morning. Bill made the trip pretty well. Stayed awake the whole time to backseat drive, but it was a pleasant trip (much better than the one going down there.).
If I even have any illusions of another “family vacation” please SHOOT ME!!!

Sheesh, just reading that made me tired girl!!! Glad you're finally home...is it bad that I'm LMAO right now!! That's the funniest story I've heard in a long time!! Hope Bill is doing better!!

Family get togethers... Lots of fun... 
Lucky me, no siblings, granparents died (too) early.
But I recall spending lots of summerholidays at my mum's childhood home lots of cousins, aunts and uncles and lots of troubles. Good times, too. But let's just say that I have no illusions about family vacations!

Let's see -- what's wrong with Bill --- he's OLD, he's had a stroke, his lungs are shot, he's a hypochrondriac, he likes attentions and to be waited on hand and foot  . I keep telling the docs they can NOT let him die -- I've been working on a PLAN to kill him for about 45 years and it's NOT perfected YET, but it's getting closer and closer....
Oh and I left off the FINALLE to our PERFECT vacation. When we pulled up in the driveway at home -- it seems we'd had a little storm and the neighbor's tree had lost a limb - hit our fence and demolished it! My "baby" (my red convertible I've had since 94 - only 70,000 miles and in mint condition) was parked in the driveway - how it missed it is still a mystery). But I lost it, I started laughing and almost wet my pants. Then I got my wits together and went to bed. Perfect ending......
Think I'll go take a nap now....

Oh dear Barbara........if I shut my eyes, I can see us on the porch over Lemon Bay again, early in the morning having coffee and you telling the best, most real accounts of your adventures and me and Nancy, Bill and Deb joining in, laughing our insides out.
Wish we could forget everything and do it again. Even the ride to the beach with that huge inflated ring on the top of my car and you and Nancy getting your arms pulled off by it being lifted by the wind but not daring to let go.
We sure did have some fun. And boy do I miss Debs milk shakes!!! Remember the Blenda?
Wonder if Bill and Deb would come to Englewood one more time? And Andy. And BarbG. And Sailpappy & Terri. And Kip & Judy. And Jackie. And Elaine.
I'm back at the Beach & Yacht Club part time right now, and I think I saw the big 3 bedroom for rent early November for $660.00 for the week. Sleeps 8, divide that into $660.00 and you get roughly $85.00 apiece.
Even saw the boat of Nancy's, with the cat. Will that get everyone down here again? Tiki Bar's still going strong.
Oh well. Dream's over for now.
Really sorry Bill's having a rough time.

DH, you know what -- that first few days in Destin (Sandestin, Santa Rosa Beach or whereever the hell we were) in this three (or four) story house with all this "put on" spohistcation crap - I really thought a lot about Englewood and wished to hell I was there with Nancy smashed, painting toenails and yelling at me to turn off the light and fighting over what take out place we were ordering from tonight.
And the REALLY bad part was my friend JOhn was in Miami Beach having a GREAT time - I'm still mad at him!
Bill and I sat on the porch a lot and I told him all about the Tiki Bar and my bird and cried a little cause I know he died (the bird not BIll) of depression (or hunger) when I had to leave.
Well, it's five o'clock in the afternoon here in Shreveport and I think Granny is going to go have a shower, take her meds and hit the sack, get up in the morning and start a new life.......

This is why spas were invented, so the one who is supposedly on vacation actually gets to take a break. I had a vacation a lot like yours last summer, and it was a lesson well learned. Somehow, the real experience just doesn't seem as funny as National Lampoons version. I sure hope Bill is doing better now.

Gawd all this reminds me I have a family reunion to go to this month (Brad's side).....I don't even want to know the date ahead of time......I'd rather not get to indepth with the dreading factor yet. They MAKE everyone stand up and tell the entire group WHO YOU ARE AND YOUR RELATION......play silly games I duck out of.......they judge you on your ability to walk around and be soical (I also duck out of that best I can) and you bring a dish they can all look over and rate. Wish I could duck the entire affair....but that is an automatic F. Flunk family Pam
We rode last year which bought us a little bit of 'cool'......sigh.......why does time go so slow when your NOT haveing fun ? It will be a long day.....kinda like judgement day revisited. YUK ! My I only work 5 months a year son-in-law will be there too......they think bill collectors are bad and should leave them alone. Yeah......whatever.
