Can anyone help with a duty free query?

ARGH!
I've spent all morning on the US Embassy website and I've even rung them (its bloody scary hearing "You have reached the department of homeland security" I can tell you!) I can't get through to anyone there and I'm fed up of trying
When we come to Dallas I want to bring some booze for auctions, raffles, whatever.. and I found the allowance details are one litre of alcohol in any shape or form and then duty for anything over and above that at the rates of
15 cents per litre for beer,
34 cents a litre for still wine
and $3.06 per litre for scotch - guess you're buggered if you drink anything else!
I wanted to bring a bottle of whiskey and a couple of bottles of wine but it ALSO says that individual state laws may vary and you might not be able to do that. I can't find anything about state laws for Texas regarding duty free and I just wondered if any of you know?
I'm assuming I CAN bring it providing I'm prepared to pay the duty?? Its a flippin quagmire! Why can't you lot be complete and utter pissheads like wot we are?!

Hi from down under.

I think you'l find that duty applies pretty much world wide, here in Oz the same quantities apply and pretty much the same $/litre cost on duty.

Everyone wants a piece of the action and all we want is the hangover. ( I can live with a hangover, especially if i've put a lot of work into it ).

I make my own beer, wine and scotch and when I know that I can make a 700ml bottle of bloody good scotch for Aust $9.00 but would have to pay $28.00 for the cheepest at a cut price grog shop you know some'one is making a killing somewhere.

Cheers & enjoy the Convention.
Kind Regards
Barry

Damn. Sorry for this but paranoia runs high here at the moment.  Didn't Svenn bring in some Scotch from Copenhagen? The powers that be here haven't been too fussy about whom is hired to give visitors a hard time and Svenn had to replace his luggage when they broke his lock. Shameful.  Angry

I wonder about Texas and liquor. I'd think it would be pretty liberal there....but then Bush is a Texan.....

Wish I could help but I'm a tyro when it comes to international travel. Tony Blair is popular here though. Tell them you voted for him....  Roll Eyes

Hi

If you just practice your "Ya'll", "Git-R-Done" and "Got-R-Done" I think that you will be just fine. If you add on: "In the beginning there was darkness, then God created Texas" you may even get a personal escort  Cheesy

From the TSA site:

Travelers & Consumers  Printable Version
Transporting Special Items

Transporting Alcoholic Beverages

Alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, are prohibited from carry-on and checked luggage.  Up to 5 liters of alcohol with alcoholic content between 24% and 70% are allowed per person as carry-on or checked luggage if packaged in a sealable bottle or flask.  Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcoholic content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations.

Please check with your airline for any further restrictions.

You should definitely check with your airline.   The TSA guidelines are not all inclusive.   They change from day to day.

Tracey had a bottle confiscated in Davenport last year.

My grandaughter flew from Germany to Houston....brought 2 bottles of whiskey...she had no problem.   And......she was only 15 years old.  LOL

However....you can go to the TSA site...and check if you want.    TSA.Gov
