This is brass plumbing pipe...cut,bent,coped and welded together to make this rail.

Same rail after I give it the King jonny touch....LOL Grin

Two rails...anyone care to guess how long it took to polish them both?....each one took the same amount of time Grin

Edit to add: Notice that I have polishing rags between them....thats so they dont scratch each other...anyone even puts a finger print on my finish will die...Grin

I dont coat the things cause of all the dust I creat in the shop, but if I were the customer I would clear lacquer them. If he dont and dont clean them once a week they will be brown as all hell in six months from tarnish. (If outside)

They're really beautiful, and it's interesting to see the progression of the work.  Do you finish it all with a coating to slow down the oxidation?  I love brass, but it always seems to need frequent polishing. Grin

Jonny
Thats really good work, ther's a lot of pride put into work like that.

I collect brass & copper gear and to preserve the surface after polishing I use a clear lacquer that lasts if you dont put it in a constant wear situation.

Brass I dont have a problem with polishing, but copper items tarnish very quickly and if you dont get the clear lacquer on post haste you are left with early stage tarnish under the clear.
Have you got any tips on stopping or postponing the tarnish long enough to be able to get the lacquer on.

My favourite piece is a Vernier Theodolite made in England in 1864, hand made, solid brass.
I picked this up as a working piece while I was still in the surveying game, I cant post photo's so I will Email a couple of shots I think you will appreciate the craftmanship being the craftsman you are.

Kind Regards
Barry

Without a doubt noticably exceptional work, before the shine too!

Jonny, is it true you learned how to shine the knob from Lance?  I hope Don does not get jealous ...

BTW, my knob gets best results when polished with a saliva base ..
