Weddings…I love them.  They’re also very entertaining.

Went to a huge, lavish, extravagant wedding this Saturday in Long Island, NY…It was held in a castle…Rumor has it that this wedding cost around $100K – 400 people.  After being there, I believe it.

The entrance into the castle was up marble staircases covered in rose petals and the railings covered in white lace bows and white roses.

Cocktail hour was in a ballroom filled with tables that had dozens of different Italian appetizers…all you can eat jumbo shrimp…I was in heaven  Grin.  Open bar.  Everyone was dressed to a T.   Gowns, 3 piece suits.  Lots of 2-cheek kisses.

After, a 3-course meal was served between dancing and toasts, followed by dessert in another ballroom after the couple cut their wedding cake.  There were at least 10 tables with dozens of different Italian desserts, ice cream, fruit.  No donuts though…what’s up with that???  Huh - I grabbed a big piece of Tiramisu, some coffee and sat outside with my friends on elegant chairs placed out on the grass.

Later, I walked around the grounds with my friends – ya know to burn some calories after stuffing our faces… Undecided Found a young couple making out and close to getting their freak on by the fountains.  Shocked

When it came time for the bride to throw the bouquet, all finesse was out the door though.  It was war.  I had planned it out with my friends that this would be a group effort and teamwork was necessary to ensure either one of us got that bouquet.  It looked like a football game.  Friends were running with the bouquet and when they were close to getting tackled, they’d throw the bouquet to the nearest friend.  By the time the fight settled, there was one flower left on the bouquet…but it was the principal of the point .  Everyone was hysterical laughing.  Ladies, you would’ve been proud… Grin

There was a band and a DJ.  The lead singer in the band, I have to say was talented.  Great voice.  I danced to my heart’s content…and even gave lessons right on the dance floor, discreetly of course, to the men I danced with that were all over the place…Word of advice…if you have two left feet…pick a beat in the song, and two-step it…trust me…it’s safe and no one will get hurt  Wink.

There was a lady there that thought she was in a ballroom competition…her and her partner were doing some crazy moves…in one of the moves, she lifted her leg high and you could see her “stuff”… Embarassed

One man from Italy taught me some of the Italian dances…lots of hopping around.  LOL.

I heard the bride’s parents gave them a Flower Shop for their wedding gift and the groom’s parents paid for their home and their honeymoon - 2-week cruise around the Mediterranean.

I was in line about 45 minutes waiting to meet the couple and to hand them the envelope.  It was like a scene from Goodfellas.  The favor was a porcelain serving dish.

I started thinking about the couple.  Young, beautiful together, radiant and so in love, already wealthy and wondered what life had in store for them.  Will they make it?  All this luxury and money in the long run will make no difference.  The stuff that makes it work, you can’t buy.

I hope they make it.

Thanks a lot, way to make me feel inadequate.  No way I can afford a ceremony like that, but at least I know one thing, the guy, whoever he is, will not have as good a wife as I will.  Grin

Wow, Langa - sounds like a spectacular event!   Shocked  Kinda made my blood run cold though as my daughter got engaged on Saturday nite, so there is a wedding in our family's future right now too.  However, my favourite line from Friends applies here:  "There IS no wedding fund, Monica!"

I loved what you said here:  " All this luxury and money in the long run will make no difference.  The stuff that makes it work, you can’t buy."

Corinne and James are going to wait until their daughter, (My granddaughter, The Princess) Savannah, is walking next year so that the three of them can walk down the aisle together.  They're going to rent out our local community hall and be married in front of the fireplace, with their friends and family watching.  Afterwards, an outdoor brunch reception.  All very casual and very much on a budget.

These two ARE gonna make it!

I'd still like to see some jumbo shrimp there though....Wink

The Wedding sounded fun!!! BUT doesn't mean shit, having been there more than once I can tell you its the relationship that follows the wedding and even the marriage is a contract and a contract only. Without the friendship and hard commitment it will never work anyway. Its hard for people to remember in their day to day lifes, but the rewards that can and will happen are amazing if the two people make it work! Or so I am told, LOL!!!!

Just yesterday I went to a Justice of the Peace wedding at the Courthouse in Vegas. Didn't do it on purpose though. I went to the court for an attempted murder charge and a mayhem charge. But, that's another story.
The marriage place is in the courthouse and the line for the suckers couples was out the door. While on a break from the trial I was hanging out outside the front doors for a smoke and started talking to an old fart that had a mail order bride from Thailand. They asked if a witness was available at the lynching ceremony. I said Yes, of course. This is Vegas, witness' were invented in Vegas. But, since I had time to kill I'd witness for them. It was over is eight minutes and they were off to do whatever newlyweds do. Fight, I think.

Note: the mail order company should be sued. The bride was uglier than hell! Old geezer didn't get his moneys worth.

Weddings are just a glorified funeral.

We need to start a new trend, Spouse leasing. 5 year lease, when the lease is up you turn in the old for the new. or you can extend your lease if so desired.

I can dig it, Aprilbee.  My wife and I were in the Air Force stationed at Misawa, Japan.  We both left work, went to the Legal Office, signed on the dotted line and walked out married and went to lunch.  After lunch, we went back to work.  It just doesn't get any more romantic, eh?

We did have an actual ceremony a month later.  According to the wife, we were married on August 18, but I have fun reminding her we were actually married July 18th.  Hmmm, now that you mention it, the Monday after the convention is our 15th wedding anniversary.
