If someone is really bothering you that much to make you so angry that you feel the need to rip that person to pieces just to 'get back' at them, then seriously...please do us all a favor and just maybe stop reading their posts for a bit or try to take a breather!
Honestly, no matter how much you may not like someone else's opinion or actions, is the most effective way of dealing with that REALLY to start a thread with the sole intention of blasting them publicly?
Seems to me that a mature way to handle that would be to first take it to that person in private (not as a response in a public thread), and if that doesn't work, then focus on people you get along with and just let it go. If that person continues to try to get at you, it seriously is only going to be worse if you fight and yell right back.
We can't control how others act towards us, but we sure as hell can control our reactions back at them.

Joe's threads (and a few others, I might add) have been hijacked into the usual "pissing contest" behavior that I've seen too many times. I don't think it's intentional on Bob's part...

I agree that it can be discouraging, but that alone cannot destroy a thread.
The eventual pissing contest that results is a direct result of all involved who start cat-fighting.
Just something else to consider....
Anybody can make a controversial post, but the responses to that post play just as much a part in the 'pissing contest' you refer to.
(Not attacking you, Nani...I hope you know I wouldn't do that....just trying to make a point or observation or something...)
