I have to ask an honest opinion from someone who's biased and can answer this because its buggin' me. One of my employees gave his notice today because he does not have health insurance. He's 44, single and lives in the basement of his sisters house. His weekly payckeck is approximately $1,800.00 dollars a week, or $1,200.00 take home give or take. I told him that I cannot afford to give him health insurance and $1,800.00 dollars a week unfortunately, but I might be able to get him insurance for a cheaper rate than he could himself through the company but I would have to deduct it out of his check, instead he put his nose up and said and and I quote "fuck that" Sooooooooooooo to make a long story short I didn't punch him in the face I just said "I'm sorry I couldn't help you, if I could I would" My question is should I break his face..................cuz I think it would make me feel better, apparently I'm a not a very nice person either way And if he worked for you what would you do, and how would you handle it? Tanks, Sean...............................................

If you break his face, you're gonna have to pay the dr bill. The new company that my hubby works for doesn't have enough people to get a group plan. So the owner gets a little bit of a break offering a local individual plan. Employees can opt to pay for their own insurance. It would be ideal if all employers could offer and pay for health insurance, but, let's be real....the cost is ridiculous!! Don't sweat it, Seannie....you're doing the best that you can. And that guys made enough to pay for his own. His loss, I think.

He's a dumbass!!!!!!!! 1200 a week is 62400 after taxes. What a schmuck considering that he lives in sisters basement and doubt he pays much if anything in rent. Even if buying his own insurance at a high rate he would still be making a decent living for a single man mooching off sister. Antagonize the moron, have him assault you in front of witnesses and then knock him out. Sue him for all he has and enjoy the fact that he will be a pauper with medical bills that he could have had taken care of if he wasn't a dipshit! Fuck that...whatta a dick! Good riddence E

Thats the way I felt to Nan, if I get it for him I have to get it for all and some of the guys spouces already have it, no what I mean, so I can't. I honestly was pissed, how much money should laborers get? I could hire a brazilian who'll never complain and work for food and be happy. Why is it that with some people they just always want and want and want and it ends up sour like this, it kills me, I'm the most liberal boss alive I swear, nothings ever an issue with me, maybe thats my problem I don't know I'm confused. You can make some people happy some of the time but you cant make everyone happy all the time. Fire him for insuborination, if my employee told me that he would be walking to the the gate with his last paycheck.

This guy think he works for the "T"? What a fucking moron. Gave his notice? You wont even notice he's gone. Plenty of guys out there looking for work. I'd take his job but you'd probably have some ridiculous rule like I'd have to show up every day. On time. Fuck that.

Contrary to popular belief you do not have a 'right' to healtcare in this country. Nor to a job for that matter. This guy clearly mismanages his money or is putting it up his nose. Good riddance, IMO.

Hi Sean_C With $85,000.00 a year (give or take), this guy most likely made a serious mistake by giving his notice unless he already have another job lined up. If he does not, I have a feeling that he is not going to go through with it and if he does, he will have to look for a GM position, Junior CFO or something like that to get another job that pays that kind of money. Whoever consider hiring him at this level will do an extensive background check, including calling his previous employer Unless he is the "backbone" of your company, then look at it for what it is; a person with a far to big ego that will never be satisfied. Once he gets the health insurance, he'd ask for a company car, paid vacation in the Bahamas etc, etc. Maybe some of this falls back on you. It could be that you are so nice and approachable that he felt that he could push the envelope without consequence, "knowing" that you would not "let him go". It is hard to have to hire new people and to train them etc, but sometimes that is what you will have to do in order to keep order. Sometimes people get in under your skin - but it aint shit compared to a K-10 Marty

Yeah, we have credit debt, yeah I don't shop much, and we let go of helath insurance because it got to be $700 a month...um that's more than the aparment rent.... &*$** blue cross bastards. They hand out free insurance to kids under 18....and ^*$%&% anyone who can "afford it". At this point. i don't want insurance. i don't even want a doctor!!!!!!!!

| honestly biased? Ok, I'm in. Greed. The choice of giving up $4,500 a month take home, for a variable estimated $600.00 a month (no dependents) expense to him... I'd guess he figures he can do better, but should review his math a little, as well as opportunities. You offered what further you are capable of doing for him. It could be foolhardy of him. While he may have been enduring the dangers of not having insurance, or the expense of having it, and took a stand on principle for insurance, he is forgetting to properly assess the danger of not having the $4,500.00 a month to live, and be able to bridge the gap of enduring danger with his principles by his own means. The incident could have been instilled by bravada and not wanting to come across timid about it, and so quit. Foolhardy, I say. Hope he is still content in his sister's basement now. Kevin M

In Oklahoma we have a law "Work at will" which basically means either party may terminate employment at any time for any reason with no recourse available to either party. If you quit or are fired for cause unemployment compensation is not available. Officers of a corporation or partners of a company fall under different laws. Lee

He sounds like a greedy bastard whom you could well do without. Don't waste ya energy on thumping him, just smile and wave goodbye Cheers, Jacqs(Kiwi)

| Tell him thanks but no thanks, you don't need his "notice" and fight his unemployment tooth and nail. It'll make you feel better even if he does get it in the end. If he was making $1800.00 a month, he'd probably still get the UI but at the rate he was earning, he was making more than whatever the Unemployment Administrator is making and will probably be denied. No reason your insurance should go up because this guys a jerk. Be careful what you say when he has his new prospective employers call for a reference. No doubt he will because he figures he's been the perfect employee (these types always do) and will be expecting a glowing report from you. States vary on what you are required to say and what you can't say. Find out the rules if you're not sure and don't provide any more than is necessary one way or the other or he'll end up calling the labor relations board. (these types usually do lol) If permissable in your state, provide nothing without a written request. Sometimes, the only thing tougher than being an employEE, is being an employER. Bobw P.S. He's probably leaving for some other reason anyway, like he wants to take the summer off and unemployemnt insurance will probably cover his rent, he thinks. If he uses a computer at work, check to see if he's been visiting vacation sites and/or Travelocity
