I really don't know what to think, it's disturbing to see stuff like this drilled into kids heads. Can't shield them from it but you can help them understand the it's not the way normal people act.

Whoa---hold your horses there BobG! For the record it's unconstitutional for the gov't to seize money from people who earned and redistribute it to a pet cause (in this case a TV program) regardless of how wholesome it seems or how many votes it may garner.
If the television show is one that people value it will do just fine without the confiscated money to support it. Ditto for all the starving artists.
Congress may or may not think the Reading Rainbow is deserved of the ax but simply b/c the gov't doesn't prop it up does not mean it will vanish.

I'll throw in public education (socialist indoctrination, metal scanners) the FAA, EPA, most all Cabinet positions which are formations of yet more layers of control and corruption. There is nothing, not one thing or service the gov't, ahem, provides, that a free market solution does not or would not do more efficiently, and inexpensively. Congressman(D) stated yesterday that there should be an oversight committee governing amusement parks around the country and the reason there isn't one is because of a 'legal loophole'. What? This is so typical of 21st century America. Millions of people go to an amusement park and ride a ride. A few people throw up. That happens with roller coasters around the country. One small child dies after the ride. Medical experts say that the death could not be blamed on the ride ... and here comes some jackass calling for standardization of amusement park rides. That, of course, means federal standardization. Another job for government. What does this man envision? Some sort of federal agency, perhaps under the Department of Homeland Security, that will pass on all plans for rides in amusement parks across America?
There's a free market solution here. But those who love government don't like free market solutions. The free market solution is insurance. Theme and amusement parks buy insurance policies. The insurance companies who write those policies spend millions on testing and experts to make sure that the rides they insure are safe. This free market solution works .. and it works without the participation or involvement of some federal agency that sets standards for amusement park rides.
Day after day .. in virtually every community around the nation ... you will find someone calling for yet more federal control of some aspect of our lives ... whether it's amusement park rides, your health care, or what kind of label they have to put on your underwear.

It is such a pleasure to occasionally read a post by some one with the ability to think for themselves and who actually believes that we should still be empowered over the gov't instead of it being the other way around. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

Everytime I think someone like you has summarized the whole thing perfectly, I realize it is all so fucked up it can't be fixed. And it can't. so what do you do -- you become a, or you a hire a lobbiest, so at least the shit you care about get's to keep a post at the trough. If you can't be a lobbiest, or hire one, well be ready to have your wealth redistributed, spend what you can to enjoy life and realize that the average life span and actuarial tables should mean something to others than the insurance companies.

Its a little speachy but this is a letter of mine published in a local newspaper this morning. (My little attempt to get folks in PA off their asses and actively involved in what is going on).
We Are Not Indentured Servants
Add all of your taxes from last year. You will find the average family pays nearly 60% their income to payroll, income – (Federal/State/Local), sales, property, school, gasoline, federal excise, and endless “hidden taxes” (phone, electric, gas, etc.). The sad fact is we spend more on taxes than food, clothes, health care, transportation, and housing combined.
How have representatives from either party helped lately?
·Higher gasoline, property, school, State income and hidden taxes
·Unrestrained government spending despite escalating debt financed by foreign nations
·Misuse of Social Security funds
·PA House Bill 51 that increases developer profits at taxpayer expense
·Tax subsidies to corporations moving jobs overseas despite unprecedented losses of meaningful U.S. jobs
·Representatives influenced by family vacations, gifts and contributions from special and foreign interests
·More “Free Trade” agreements despite 28 years of U.S. trade deficits and the fact that we remain the only nation without foreign-trade protection laws
·Phony Property Tax Relief that raises taxes, benefits legislators, subsidizes gambling infrastructure with tax dollars, prohibits background checks on casino owners and prohibits enforcement of local zoning and ordinances without providing meaningful tax relief.
The cost of government is oppressive and financial transgressions widespread, but “The People” submissively pay the bill.
Government control, arrogance and corruption are alarming, but “The People” obediently elect party candidates - repeating meaningless campaign promises.
Politics does not excuse politicians, special and foreign interests stuffing their pockets at taxpayer expense.
Replace your apathy with relentless determination to achieve positive government reforms.
Replace self-serving politicians with representatives that refuse to sell out to special, foreign, party, and personal interests and hold them accountable for transgressions.
Replace “Free Trade” agreements with “Fair Trade” laws to end decades of U.S. trade deficits and job loss.
Replace oppressive taxes with financial accountability at all levels of government. This will encourage economic growth and personal savings.
Politicians from both parties have forgotten whom they work for. “The People” are not indentured servants of “The Government”. Why accept this?

The solution is simple, about 90% of office holding politicians have proven themselves to be enemies of the constitution, as well as several sitting federal judges. Try them as such and elect new ones, regular people not politicians. It is time to dump tea in Boston harbor again folks. Wake up!

Nahright guys you're giving me a woody! There's always 'Live Free or Die' where the freestateproject.org folks moved to attempt to attain at least a moticum of representation.
There is only 1 representative in Congress and not one in the Senate who actually adheres to the country's principles and that's Ron Paul from Texas. He's been dubbed 'Mr. Liberty' and the other members roll their eyes when he points out how virtually every pork-laden bill is unconstitutional. Whenever you see 434-to-1 votes on the floor he's usually that one.

A few simple guidelines that I try to live by:
1. Do all that you have agreed to do. (basis of contractual law)
2. Do not encroach on other persons or their property. (basis of criminal law)
3. Always take personal, individual responsibility for your actions. (basis of enlightened spiritual law, IMHO)
From these three simple principles, everything else falls neatly into place.

As long as we're off the subject, 2 weeks ago more than 500 economists including nobel prize winner, Milton Friedman asked for a debate on marijuana regulation. They estimate we could save 10-14 billion per year in the US(a conservative estimate). Maybe 14 billion might be worth paying if prohibition worked. ...just another constitutional oversight...

As a supposedly 'free' person in the United States one has a Constitutional right (the only rights there are) to live as you deem fit in any manner provided it doesn't interfere with anyone else's right to do same. To wit, if one decided to inject heroine, smoke pot, or in any other way attain a mood enhancer it's no one's business but your own and is not punishable nor should an unconstitutional law be written to deny you this freedom.
50% of our jails are filled with non-violent drug users and they are typically installed to a cot where a violent offender would otherwise occupy. Now, which would rather have your wife pass while walking the streets? The pot smoker or friendly local rapist?
The need is not one for more prison space but less f*n laws that infringe on our rights. Someone pass the bong.

This is fucking nuts!!! No wonder I dont watch half the crap on TV any more.  I figure if I want to see T & A I have my own to look at. If I want penis thats why I have Dave!! Gesssshhhhhhhhhhhhh.
