Life Sucks - graduation!

I tihnk I just endured one one the most painful days of my life yesterday. You see I have identical twin boys. One graduated with honors and the other one sat in jail and is facing revocation charges(He may be there 1 1/2 years) and is one credit short of graduation. He will have to get a GDE at sometime in his life when he is ready to stop skrewing up and live civilized. It just hurt so much because he had so much potential. I cried through the whole ceremony for happyiness and for sadness. Needless to say I then had to go home and host a graduation party that my parents and sister put together for my son. The rest of the day was good. It ended with a 2 hour jail visit. We basically told him until he is ready to listen and change don't call us and don't come home! We have a younger one that is very impressionable and is trying to follow in his bad brothers footsteps it seams. (dress, smokes, attitude) He is flunking out of HS also. He is a year behind. Don't know if he will make it. Thanks for listening to me vent. I love you guys.

Karla, I'm so sorry to hear about your one son being in jail, but I feel that you are doing the right thing by doing the tough love and telling him not to call or come home until he stops screwing up his life. Hopefully he can make some of his own mistakes and then realize that he needs to make a change for the positive. Congratulations on the one graduating though, that is always exciting.

Its amazeing that the ones we love give us the most joy, and the most sorrow, in our lives. Life seems to work out for the best, one of the stupidist things I have ever done changed my life for the better.

Life seems to throw things at us and when we think we can't take anymore something else happens BUT the great thing about it is that it has to go back up at some point. I will keep your family in my prayers... God know I couldn't have made through the last few months without some help from the "family"!!! Vent away. Karen

Karla, If you didn't love him so much, it wouldn't hurt so much--goes with the territory. I agree with Kimmie in that he now is to the point where he has to deal with consequences. It just takes some people a lot longer to grow up --i.e. take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else. I have a daughter who just graduated also, and although she doesn't have legal issues, she came very close to not graduating. She is a very smart girl, but she lacks direction and maturity. Her dad and I were emotionally exhausted just getting her through her senior year with a degree. So hang in there, and be there for your son, but try to resist saving him from his consequences. I know it's hard to do.

We are vulnerable through our kids for as long as we live. All you can do is be there if/when the jail-son is ready to turn his life around. In all the disappointment in the one son, don't forget the other. Time has a way of evening out how these things work out. I hope your son learns from the time spent in the county lockup and gets his life back on track. Mike

I would suggest that you make arrangements with the facilities administration to bring your youngest in to see how his older brother is living these days. Might help them both.

Karla.... what a bittersweet situation the graduation day was for you. All I can say is congrats to one son & I hope that your other ones come to their senses just like my troublemaker cousins did. You all are in my thoughts & prayers. Best wishes, Sandie
