Eighth-grader Anurag Kashyap is good at math, science and geography.

Whizzing through words most people never heard of, the 13-year-old from Poway, Calif., won the 2005 national spelling bee championship on his second try as a contestant.

A straight-A student, Anurag has represented his school at the California Geographic Bee and recently took part in state-level math and science competitions.

And he's a public school student!

Wow, now there's a dude!  He'll be choosing a university in a couple years.  Interesting what he decides to do.

I guess asking him to tutor me is out of the question, his "what I did over my summer vacation" report would be over my head.

Good to hear Chris

I saw that documentary about spelling competitions last year. Before that, not that much was known about that competition back here in Finland. We don't have similar respected tradition.

But we do have LOTS of silly competitions! Like killing moskitos or wife carrying WC... Grin
