Graduation Day #1 :)

Well today was my first day of two days of graduation related stuff! Today consisted of the honors program presentations from 3-4:30 and then our nursing pinning ceremony at 7pm. As most of you know, my honors project was entitled "More Than Just a Headache: Improving the quality of migraine and headache education for future nurses". I had overview slides on the presentation board for what I did for my project. Then I had 6 presentation binders on a little tv tray. One presentation was an analysis of my pre-survey results (where I ran a survey with 41 nursing students to assess the need for better migraine and headache education). Then, I had a binder with my general intervention which I ran in class. Then I had 3 binders which break down the topic into pathophysiology, nursing management, and pharmacology. My last binder was a supplemental pharmacology packet which took a whole bunch of prototype drugs for prevention, abortive, and rescue meds and broke them into indication, mechanism of action, adverse effects, interactions, and nursing implications. Overall the project went great! I emailed all parts of it to Svenn tonight, so maybe he can comment on what he thought of it at some point! My parents and brother were there for that and my pinning ceremony. For the pinning ceremony, I played the piano prior to the start, for the processional, and the recessional. I played: Bach Prelude in C, two slow Beethoven movements, my 3rd Poulenc Novelette, and the Chopin Raindrop Prelude prior to them starting. For the processional I played the first Poulenc Novelette, and for the recessional I played Schumann/Liszt "Widmung (dedication)" The piano stuff went great, and they actually allowed me to play on the grand piano which they normally dont' allow The ceremony itself was pretty boring! (I guess that's a ceremony thing...) I obviously enjoyed playing the piano, and I also enjoyed walking up on stage to get my pin because that's an important nursing step, but otherwise...I could have done without the speeches, awards, etc! I did manage to graduate with a 3.53 which puts me in the distinguished for cum laude category. I'm pretty shocked because I didn't think I'd get above a 3.5 with everything that's happened over the last year! Also allows me to graduate with honors because for our particular nursing program, you can't graduate with honors without actually being in the honors program AND achieving above a 3.5 GPA. It has to do with how many credits we take at Jefferson instead of just transferring in credits from our other degrees/institutions. So tomorrow is our formal graduation with the College of Health Professions and the College of Graduate Studies. It is being held in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center. Since I already graduated from Penn State just last year and just had this ceremony tonight, I didn't even really want to go, but my mom said I can't have a degree in music and pass up a graduation in the Kimmel Center - I've never even been in there! Dave plus my parents and brother will be there tomorrow. Then, we're going out to lunch, and I'll officially be done getting my Bachelor of Nursing! Just have to take my boards within 90 days of graduation. I'll study for those later - right now I'm ready for a break! After tomorrow, I'll try to upload my pics so you guys can see some of the stuff from today and tomorrow. Just wanted to share my success...long road to get here, but I'm glad I did it. Hugz, Lizzie2/Carrie

| Thanks...I'd definitely take a bow if I didn't think my head was going to explode upon bending over. The past several days have really been hell with the migraine - and somehow the extreme stress has managed to keep the clusters down at least a little bit - 2 a night or so. I already used my Amerge and rescue med twice today - so I'm maxed out - going to bed soon with the ice packs LOL I'm just glad it's all over.

| Sorry that I'm not remembering clearly (between the pain and the exhaustion), but are you starting nursing school this fall? I know someone was asking me about it in previous posts or at least making comments about it, but now I forget who all I've talked to about it! If so, where are you going to school? What kind of program is it? (diploma, Associates, Bachelor's, etc...just curious!) How long will your program take? Do you have a degree in something else and this is a second degree program? I have lots more questions for you depending on what your answers are to those! And if you AREN'T the one heading to nursing school, then I apologize!! It's hard for me to keep things straight some days! Hugz, Lizzie2/Carrie

Congratulations Liz! That's quite an achievement--any ideas where you'd like to work? And is the running pink time scale forever gone?

| Yeah! I'm hired into the neonatal unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to start orientation on June 27. Can't wait. I love it there. This fall, I will sloooooooooooooowly start taking one masters class at a time towards my neonatal nurse practitioner. And yeah - for the time being, that running pink scale is gone - until I find something else to count down for. In the meantime, I think I will enjoy just taking a break Lizzie2/Carrie
